I liked Silver Linings Playbook. I can understand the criticism it gets for trying to take an honest look at mental illness but becoming more of a conventional rom-com by the end (especially considering the Ernest Hemingway rant seemed to foreshadow a ballsier ending). That said, great performances from Cooper and Lawrence; the dance practice and competition scenes are a delight, and Lawrence's blowup at De Niro was worth the Oscar alone.
One of the things I'd like to see from the third Star Trek movie is a shift in focus on the characters outside of Kirk and Spock for more development and solo arcs. Now I absolutely loved that Into Darkness focused on Kirk's growth and maturity into the leader we all know him as and this was essential to the story but it was difficult for all 7 to be on equal footing (8 with Carol), which is dangerous territory in ensemble movies. I can compare it a bit to The Avengers where Tony and Cap dominate most of the movie with BW right behind (and if you think about it their characters pair up: Tony/Kirk are the rebellious playboy, Cap/Spock follow the rules at all costs and BW/Uhura are the fierce female leads). To be honest I think the rest of the cast had about the same amount of screen time as they did in the first one (with Sulu/Uhura seeing a big/slight decrease and Scotty seeing a huge increase) but more of a balance in the third entry will be more than welcomed. More Bones/Sulu please.
I'm watching X-files (season five) right now "Chinga," and I gotta say, Gillian Anderson is a supremely underrated actress. How come more people aren't talking about how great she is? I mean, the different facial expressions this woman goes through is amazing! She's constantly conveying a bevy of emotions to me in every episode and it is really pulling me in to the story. Facial expression is very overlooked acting ability.&#xD; &#xD; Man, I haven't watched X-Files in years, I'm so glad I decided to cycle through it again.
After STAR TREK '09, I always believed J.J. was going to make the sequel his "Wrath of Khan" style entry of the new series.&#xD; &#xD; If that was his intention, boy he meant it quite.......literally.
