I like long film titles. I like long film titles that begin with the word “The”. Most of all, I like long film titles that begin with the word “The” and feature the main character’s name at the end of said title. Example: THE ASSASINATION OF JESSE JAMES BY THE COWARD ROBERT FORD. Great title. Another example. THE CURIOUS CASE OF BENJAMIN BUTTON. Amazing title. Now I bring you perhaps my favorite “long/the/character’s name at the end” title of them all. THE UNPLEASANT PROFESSION OF JONATHAN HOAG, a new film to be directed by THE CROW helmer Alex Proyas, centers on a man who becomes increasingly disturbed when he realizes he cannot account for his activities during the day, or what he does for a living. He shares his problem with a married set of private dicks, and their investigation leads to a series of startling revelations. The film is based on the 1942 novella of the same name written by Robert Heinlein and is being described as a complex psychological thriller with plenty of action by the film’s producers. Nevermind the title, if you’re familiar with Proyas’ previous work (DARK CITY, I, ROBOT), you know the man can direct the hell out of things, especially dark, dark things, and me I like dark things.

Extra Tidbit: In 1998, Roger Ebert selected Proyas' DARK CITY as his favorite movie of the year.

I Robot

All the pointless action aside, I Robot was a really good movie. It didn't have to be faithful to the source material, as long as it delivered the same message: the robots can be alive, and pretty much be human.

Dark City was too extravagant for me. And The Crow was insanely boring. But I actually have full faith in Alex Proyas's ability because I liked I Robot so much.

Yes, I Robot sucked ass--I'm willing to let that one go (and chalk it up to studio meddling) if this turns out..

And please, give Proyas a comic character franchise to direct..Alex Proyas' Daredevil anyone??

The Crow was great, Dark City was good, I, Robot was the suck. Tell me...why would I look forward this man destroying Heinlein after what he's already done to Asimov?

Dark City was an excellent flick! So hopefully this will also be enjoyable!!

I have heard that in "Knowing", Nic Cage's toupee is able to predict the future as well as talk.

I am a huge fan of Proyas, I Robot was a pretty decent action flick (even if it bore little resemblence to the source material), but The Crow and especially Dark City are flat-out brilliant. I am an even bigger fan of Robert A. Heinlein so this is pretty awesome news to me. I'm just curious why they didn't chose to adapt one of Heinlein's better known works.

Prediction: Even if Bangkok Dangerous sucks (and I'm hoping it doesn't), "Knowing" will be Nicolas Cage's return to awesomeness.
