PTA's next? Jun. 11, 2008
Source: Cigarettes and Red Vines
by: Mike Sampson

After Paul Thomas Anderson's epic THERE WILL BE BLOOD (the best film of last year), you've got to think he can pretty much make any movie he wants to. The question is when he'll make up his mind and decide fully on what he wants to do. The reliable PTA blog Cigarettes and Red Vines has some word on what might be Anderson's next film. They've gotten word that Anderson may be taking on POWER PLAY about the ongoing battles between Las Vegas casinos and Native American tribes. Jack Nicholson was at one time attached to the script but it's unclear if he'd be involved in PTA's version. The script was written by Peter Bart, the editor-in-chief of Variety. Bart was suspended for three months because the sale of the script violated Variety policy (Bart later reformatted the script as a novella to get around this issue). That in and of itself is an interesting story but off point. We probably won't hear much word on Anderson's next project for a little while longer but the thought of Anderson working with Jack Nicholson is pretty exciting.

Extra Tidbit: Anderson once worked as an uncredited writer for "Saturday Night Live."

a.) The use of words to express something different from and often opposite to their literal meaning.
b.) An expression or utterance marked by a deliberate contrast between apparent and intended meaning.

See, we're learning all sort of new things here today! Isn't JoBlo fun?!

Actually think xxxoverridexxx hit it on the head. Honestly, I liked both movies equally. My biggest beef with TWBB was it lacked a human foil to make sense of things. And it lacked any significant female characters, making the film even more odd, since I think it could have benefitted from it.

Meh. THERE WILL BE BLOOD was luckily more interesting than bad, but it was too long, and D-Day was SO boring, but the movie was interesting enough that I'd give another movie (with a much less-hammy actor) a chance. So again: meh. I know I'm the only one who'll say this, but it's true...

Totally right on about There Will Be Blood as last years best. I'm sure whatever he chooses will be great, as with all his movies. No Country was good, but way overblown. Definately not the Coens best.

I wanna see what he will do with a horror movie. I know he will make something amazing.

And I looked into the metal gear thing a while back and they said he wont be doing that. But still that would be awesome.

This man is the greatest filmmaker to ever live, better than any filmmaker of past or present. I'm so excited for this. This is a great plot.

PZADVANCE, YOU'RE AN IDIOT
It's not that you have a different opinion than me, it's that you actually think opinions (especially about art) are right or wrong. I noticed you provided not one little trifling bit to back up why my opinion is "wrong."

Yes, you pushed my button just right. Attitudes like yours are why professional movie reviewers are more important than ever.

Although I do agree There Will Be Blood was the best movie of last year, I just can't anticipate one of PTA's films like I do the Coens'.

Also, I don't believe that Blood would have been nearly as good without Daniel Day Lewis.
