R-Rated Transformers? Mar. 13, 2007

I grew up worshipping Optimus Prime. The animated TRANSFORMERS MOVIE shaped my life. It taught me about friendship and responsibility, valor and pride. And most importantly it taught me that if I die, I should for no reason ever give the matrix of leadership to Ultra Magnus. Because that's just a bad day for everyone.

Therefore, I don't really need a new development to get me more excited about the upcoming Michael Bay TRANSFORMERS movie. That said, there is one anyway: turns out that when the MPAA took a look at the first cut for the movie, they slapped it with a rating of "R" for intense action and violence. Apparently, Bay didn't want to cut the film and so instead, decided to call on the help of Steven Spielberg - who serves as executive producer on the movie - to ask the MPAA to have a change of heart. Turns out that's exactly what happened as the film has now been given a PG-13 rating.

What this hopefully means is that anybody who was worried about how Bay would handle the source material can at the very least rest assured that there's going to be some real action and bloodshed involved. I'm not sure how great that is in the grand scheme of things, but at least we can rest fairly assured that Bay's movie is going to be a mature one... (Thanks to ElderPredator for the tip.)

Extra Tidbit: Some of the shots of the shuttle launch that are seen in the TRANSFORMERS Teaser are from Ron Howard's Apollo 13.

If it werent for Citizen Kane, Transformers the Movie would have been Orson Welles finest performance. I dont even need to mention Judd Nelson and Leonard Nimoy...Also, remember BumbleBee? God, he was a pussy.

However, I'll see it because I see any movie, and if I DO like it, I'd be more than willing to make a glowing review and admit that it was a good movie.

You know...usually I'm all for the R-Rating for action movies but this is Transformers for fucks sake... The fact that Bay got slapped with an R-Rating is a clear cut sign that Bay is doing something wrong with the franchise. It's a franchise that created to sell toys to children ages 6 and up during the 80s. It was awesome, don't get me wrong, but it was always marketed towards kids and it definately should have stayed that way. But I never really expected much from Micheal Bay anyways (except the Rock, that owned)

"there was a G RATED 86 animated movie of it."

Actually it was rated PG because of the 'sh*t' word. :)

Its great how powerful Spielberg is, he can just bitchslap the MPAA like this, hehehe.

Lets hope its gory and has lots of explosions and 80s music. But then again, this is Michael Bay!

Well . . . this is proof that the MPAA is completely objective and doesn't ever let politics or biases get in the way of they're decisions.

Right?

Props to Spielberg for getting his way. This even works for his R movies (SPR,Flags Of Our Fathers - produced only) to avoid NC17s.

I'm actually surprised it got an R in the first place since a) it's based on KIDS toys and b) there was a G RATED 86 animated movie of it.

Wait, so Bay threw it together and got an R, appealed to Spielberg, and then -- with no further cuts or editing -- got a PG-13 for it? Damn....that's like all of the violence with none of the worry. Guess all it means...
