Rambo gets date

We've seen the trailers for JOHN RAMBO, which have looked appropriately gory and hardcore, and heard that Lionsgate wanted Stallone to go the extra mile to make it as bad-ass as he needed to. So why pussy out with a release date then? Lionsgate has set JOHN RAMBO to open up on January 25th, the month where bad films go to die. I'm not saying that JOHN RAMBO should open up on July 4th, 2008 (though that would be somewhat appropriate) but maybe a spring date somewhere? January just seems like Lionsgate is trying to just dump this on the public. They didn't even schedule it on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day weekend, which is the only rationale I could see for releasing it in January. Maybe there's some logical explanation for it all but nine times out of ten, when a movie gets released in January, it's a stinker. Let's hope that Stallone gives us a RAMBO film we can all enjoy.

Extra Tidbit: BIG MOMMA'S HOUSE 2 is the 2nd highest grossing January opening weekend ever to give you an idea of what goes on in January.

Rambo Is Coming For YOU!
Mike, do you really think Lionsgate is going to "pussy out" on any aspect of 'John Rambo? Don't worry about the damn month it gets released, because in this day and age there is no month set aside for bad movies. Just as February, March, and April before it, January needs but one or two hot releases for it to be considered a desirable month for releasing big films. And if Rambo rakes in the ...

Just as February, March, and April before it, January needs but one or two hot releases for it to be considered a desirable month for releasing big films. And if Rambo rakes in the cash, Lionsgate will get to boast a new opening record plus collect wads of cash, all while the competition slumbers. And Mike, try waiting for a movie's release before you judge it.

It's a passion project of Stallone's. I don't think anyone is really expecting/looking for a big return, so the month of release is pretty moot. It's not like it needs to do good in order for more sequels to get greenlit or something, and it cost pennies to make. This is the last Rambo flick (starring Stallone, anyway). This is it. Everything else is collateral bullshit.

Does it matter?
It depends on the MOVIE not the RELEASE DATE on how well it succeeds. Is it only during the winter that sucky movies come out? What about the unnamed monster movie on 1/18/08? Yeah, that might suck, too....;P

Nah, rubbish.
This whole notion of January being "dump month" is a. retarded and b. untrue. Surely it's BETTER to release a film when there is little to no competition to take away from its box office draw? It makes more business sense for Lionsgate to look at the film and say, “This is a pure action film that is going to be R-rated. That means that our audience is going to be specific (and limited to a cert...

It makes more business sense for Lionsgate to look at the film and say, “This is a pure action film that is going to be R-rated. That means that our audience is going to be specific (and limited to a certain degree) anyway, so there’s no need to release this in the height of summer. We don’t want it to be overshadowed by some of the big films that are coming out towards the end of the year, so when’s the next best time slot to release it? The answer is January, when it can stand alone.” This is a good thing, not a bad thing.

Whatever month this comes out in, Rambo's gonna kick ass and take names. And that's all that matters.

Who cares?
It looks pretty badass. Who gives a shit when it comes out?! At least if it's released in January it lessens the chance of interrupting any other movies I might want to watch.

Oh shit....
Either Lionsgate has no faith in this movie or else it is really shitty. Either way, this doesn't bode well.
