Rollercoaster Tycoon corkscrews its way from computers to the big screen

*sigh*

Get ready for another “WTF?” adaptation.

Sony Pictures Animation has picked up the rights from Atari to make ROLLERCOASTER TYCOON, a live-action/CG hybrid adaption of the incredibly popular computer-based simulation game.

Director Harald Zwart (THE KARATE KID) and writers David Ronn and Jay Scherick (THE SMURFS, THE ZOOKEEPER) lead the project.

A little bit on the video game itself, from THR’s Heat Vision blog: The “Tycoon” franchise, created by Chris Sawyer, is a popular series of computer games that simulate a combination of designing roller coasters and amusement park management. Each game challenges players with open-ended amusement park management and development while allowing them to construct and customize their own unique roller coasters.

Please tell me I’m not the only one that thinks this sounds utterly retarded. On the other hand, if the movie went THIS ROUTE

(Thanks to Collider’s Matt Goldberg for that!)
