People, be excited. Be very, very excited. With news breaking last week that Brad Pitt is all but set to star in QT's INGLORIOUS BASTARDS, the film immediately became one of my most anticipated movies of the next year. Well, I didn't think it was possible, but that anticipation just increased tenfold.
Why you ask? I shall tell you. Eli Roth, the bloodthirsty nutcase behind the HOSTEL films is set to play a " baseball bat-swinging Nazi hunter" opposite Brad Pitt. I know many of you will pin this casting on pure nepotism, as the two directors are close friends, but hear me out for a second. For those of you that have seen Roth's breakthrough film CABIN FEVER, remember that horrific flashback scene in which Roth played a maniacal clown with a bed-wetting face? That shyte scared the daylights out of me and still haunts me to this day AND has me convinced that his guy can pull this new role off beautifully.
Also, I think with all of his off-beat casting choices in the past, most of which have left us floored, Quentin has earned our trust. What do you think? Can Roth pull it off?
Extra Tidbit:
Eli Roth or no Eli Roth, the idea of a "baseball bat-swinging Nazi hunter" in a Tarantino film should make us all rejoice and thank the heavens.

I'm all for Mr. Tarantino.
But I dislike Roth, just because he hasn't made 1 film I like. And I seriously doubt his acting skills are any better. Tarantino can have pretty much anyone he wants I'm thinking give one of the hundreds of great young (or old) hungry actors that bone. |

CASTING
I do dig how Tarantino goes a little bit outside the box when he casts his movies. Word just in that he's added B.J. Novak from the Office to the group of "Bastards."
I'm sure it won't be for this one, but I hope he works with Sam Jackson again for his next flick. Cause 2 and a half (Kill Bil) times just isn't enough.
And by the way, what the hell is with Ridley Scott and Russel Crowe? How many damn movies do these guys need to make together? Somebody tell them to take a break! Now it's 3 going on 4 (Nottingham), but man it feels like 6 or 7. |

ROTH CONFUSION
Haha! I thought it was Tim Roth, too, but Eli Roth is just as good, if not better news! Sure, his character in Death Proof was a bit silly, but that was the point! I know Eli Roth has skills in acting and I know he will better this film. I am excited to hear more about who will be casted! Go Quentin!!! |

Jesus... The title had me thinking that it was gonna be Tim Roth too, and for a second there I was stoked. But this... Yeah this isn't really cause to get "very, very excited."
I mean I dig his work as a director and everything, but as far as splatter flicks go Alejandre Aja is still the best active director working in that genre. In my opinion at least.
Anyway, doesn't really matter what they announce about this movie between now and opening day, pretty much everybody here is going to watch it anyway, myself included.

WRONG ROTH
I'll be there to see it any way it comes, but I'm almost certain that it was Eli's brother who played the Bowling Alley Guy in the Cabin Fever flashback sequence. THAT guy's got a freaky smile, it's true. But never the less, look at Eli's picture in the article. I don't think it's going to be a problem. |

At first, like others here, I was thinking it would be Tim Roth...which would have kicked ass. But I'm okay with this. After watching his one-on-one interview with Josh Brolin, he's a cool cat in my book. |

By the way, I don't remember that scene from CABIN FEVER at all. I remember him playing some stoner due with a big dog.
I also remember that CABIN FEVER sucked, so I suppose it really doesn't matter. |

I am not a fan of this casting. At all. I've read the script and there is a scene that sets up the character beautifully. I don't think Roth can pull it off. Still, I'd be happy to be proven wrong.
Someone mentioned Adam Sandler for the part. After his wonderful dramatic turn in REIGN OVER ME, I can't help but agree. Sandler would be much better. |

He's got talent as a director, I just dont think he's had the right material to show it. As for being in 'bastards', no problem here. |

ROTH IS A BASTARD?
One more reason this movie WILL suck. The most over hyped horror director, acting for the most over hyped director! LOL! Tim Roth would have been a much better choice. |
