Strike Back below!
by: Daniel Barna Nov. 17, 2008

The resurrection of Mickey Rourke continues. I saw his performance in THE WRESTLER and the man deserves every ounce of the acclaim he's getting and then some. His upcoming film KILLSHOT, in which Mickey plays a hitman out to knock off Diane Lane and Thomas Jane, is directed by the well-regarded and talented John Madden, so I expect it to be more than generic action schlock. THE WRESTLER hits theatres on January 16th and KILLSHOT will be released the following week. If you like Mickey Rourke, let's just say your'e in luck. Check out the two Mickey-centric posters below.

Extra Tidbit: Mickey's Oscar acceptance speech will go down as classic I'm sure.

Killshot
I remember seeing trailers for this a while back. At least a couple years ago. Was it made, and then shelved?

Awesome poster for The Wrestler, one of my most anticipated films of the year, Aronofsky has yet to disappoint me and it looks like this will be no different.

Interesting to see a poster for Killshot since I was under the impression it had been shelved...

he may be great in it...
...but, unfortunately, he's not gonna get an oscar.

if rourke does, brad pitt deserves one for best posthumous character for tyler durden.

I've seen the Wrestler twice now and Aronfosky was at the last screening with Marisa Tomei and did a Q+A. I'm convinced now that this should get Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Actor. Its that good, and nothing like his previous works (which I loved). But Rourke for actor is a no-brainer, I just hope enough people see the film to know to vote for him. Just yesterday I watched for the first time DESPERATE HOURS and he was fucking awesome as Bosworth. Who also couldn't forget the sexy Shawnee Smith (THE BLOB,SUMMER SCHOOL,SAW) as May.

Oscar, I say.
Saw 'the Wrestler'on the filmfestival in Ghent, Belgium and I was impressed. I'm not a big fan of Mickey Rourke, but this film made me respect the man. His performance is nothing less than outstanding! He at least deserves a 'Best Actor' nomination, no doubt.

As for Darren Aronofsky, this is his most simple film to date. Who disliked 'The Fountain' (I didn't), Pi or 'Requiem...

I liked him in Sin City, Domino, and Man on Fire. I do not really see how this is a ressurrection. I do however think it looks really good!

Try December Awards Consideration Dump
While the January release of Killshot may say something, The Wrestler is being released in December in NY/LA so that it can be considered for the Oscars. It has amazing buzz. And after last year (Rambo, Cloverfield) January may not be what it once was.

January Dump
Shucks, I was looking forward to both of these, but the January dump doesn't lie.
