Jig Saw 123

Even though Crystal Skull wasn't on par with the originals, it was still a fun film. I would love an Indy V, just this time with less CGI, and a more compelling story. |

After KOTC, Ive come to hate both Speilberg and Lucas. Speilberg for taking second unit directing gig and bringing forth Koepp. But mainly Lucas, because of his complancy. He's tired. The man who essentially created an industry within itself , views it no longer with interest but disdain. Its merely a means to an inevitable end; a cash n grab scheme to the multitudes of the great unwashed before the carnival shuts down and police are dispatched. Lots of directors achieve this dismal status in latter years; Wells, Hitchcock, Houston, Penn, Speilberg, etc. Yet they manage to resort back in some manner to what made them successful. But what seperates Lucas is his own personal ability to admit defeat and also the weened audience inability to reject shit being served from his various ventures.
Simply put, theyre will be another Jones and SW it will be worse than KOTC, not soely because of Lucas but because us, the fans, have already fell for the slide of hand, finished our pudding and asked for more in sheer numbers despite warning of extreme heartburn. |

Indy 4 was weaker than its predecessors, but not a bad movie. I would really like to see Indy go out strong, but I doubt that'll happen.
And a definite no to the mutt spin-off. |

Call me Indiana
on Aug 6 2008, 2:15:34 PM writes:
I'm all for an Indy 5. I agree with nickdoll below that CRYSTAL SKULL isn't as bad as people are making it out to be. Sure, it wasn't as great as RAIDERS (and let's be honest, no Indy film will be as good as RAIDERS, THE LAST CRUSADE came in a very close second, though) and I personally put CRYSTAL SKULL above TEMPLE OF DOOM. Yeah, CRYSTAL SKULL had that ridiculous monkey scene, but TEMPLE OF DOOM had Willie Scott.
I don't think that Lucas deserves ALL of the bashing that he gets. Oh yes, he deserves a lot of it, but not all. Like it was already said, he created STAR WARS and INDIANA JONES, two of the greatest trilogies ever (obviously I'm not counting the STAR WARS prequels). There's also a reason why the prequels sucked and why CRYSTAL SKULL and TEMPLE OF DOOM, while both are still good, didn't turn out as great as they could've been. Lucas had too much control of them. I read that he approached Spielberg and Ron Howard to direct the Star Wars prequels but they turned him down because they felt that he should direct them. Well, they just learned the hard way what happens when you give George Lucas too much control over a project. God, how awesome would a Spielberg directed STAR WARS flick be?
And in regards to Indy, Lucas did come up with the idea for RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK. But then handed it over to the best director (Spielberg) and entrusted the story in the hands of a talented writer (Lawrence Kasdan). After that all control of the movie is, rightfully, given to Spielberg while Lucas deals with getting financing and otherwise sitting back to watch his idea come to life (and helping out with some second unit directing, if memory serves).
TEMPLE OF DOOM you had the opposite. Lucas has too much control, wanting it to be this way and that way, and it doesn't turn out as great. Good, but not great. Spielberg has even said that TEMPLE OF DOOM is his least favorite.
THE LAST CRUSADE you have the RAIDERS outcome again. Spielberg has more control again and Sean Connery pitches in by basically telling Lucas to fuck off in regards how to portray his character and also giving notes on the entire piece itself. God bless you Sean Connery.
Too bad he couldn't have done the same for CRYSTAL SKULL. While I liked it, I think it could have been much better. It almost seemed as if there was a fight for control over this one. Spielberg wanting this, Lucas wanting that, and eventually coming to a compromise that may or may not be all that great. I'd also like to take a second to talk about Frank Darabonts Indy script and how everyone thinks if they had filmed his it would have been so much better. Well, having read (most of) Darabonts script, I can say it wouldn't have been any better. In some cases, worse.
I'm not sure which draft of Darabonts script I found and am reading, but if this was his final one he submitted, then the dude should have gotten a story credit on CRYSTAL SKULL. There's so much they used from his script that you could probably say they did film his script. But like I said, I haven't finished reading it and I'm not sure which draft it is (it doesn't say on it so I'm just assuming it was his final one).
So, basically what I'm getting at here is that I'm all for an Indy 5 provided that all Lucas has to do with it is the basic idea for it and supplying the money. Then handing it off to a talented writer (Steven Moffat just popped into my head) and letting Spielberg handle the rest and let Ford do his thing.
Oh and subtract Mutt out of it as well. Bring back Sallah!!! |

George Lucas can bite ma shite, yes nickdoll he did give us Star Wars and Indiana Jones but couldn't let them go...and still can't. It still hurts that he rejected Darabont's PERFECT script, the first half on KOTCS was good but after that his trademark ridiculous tinkering was all too evident. There probably will be another Indy, but Harrison Ford will have very little screentime I feel. The man only sees green which has caused him to make some really shitty decisions at the expense of the people who bought the tickets all those years ago and put him where he is. He has no respect for anyone else and I have no longer have any respect for him. Yes, these are his characters and he has the license to do what he wishes, it doesn't mean we have to like it. It'll end in tears
Phew, rant over...sorry :P |

MARCOVISION1 IS RIGHT
As much as I hate new Star Wars and the Monkey scene in Jones 4, Lucas DID create Star Wars and Indiana Jones, giving us 3 fantastic films of each. For all the crimes he has committed, he has done more good than most directors you all love (including your main squeeze, Nolan).
Plus, Crystal Skull isn't as bad as everyone says. Drop the Monkeys and keep Indy as the star, and I'd love to have Indy 5. |
