Warner Bros. seems to be stuck in an awkward situation regarding a follow-up to SUPERMAN RETURNS. Clearly they would be interested in making another SUPERMAN movie but I don't think they're convinced they want Bryan Singer to return. Otherwise, why all the he is/he isn't drama? Now more evidence to fuel the fire: comic writer Mark Millar ("Wanted") is saying he was approached by a "very well known American action director" who wants to team up for a new SUPERMAN pitch. Says Millar, "He has huge pull at WB so fingers crossed." Now Millar could be yanking our collective chains and that "well known" director could be Bryan Singer. Or, more than likely, the word has gotten out that Warner Bros. is interested in new ideas for a SUPERMAN film and a guy like Michael Bay (a name I'm completely making up for the sake of argument) called Millar after WANTED and asked him to join their pitch. Keep in mind through all this that Millar got himself into some hot water after generating a story that Eminem was "begging" to star in WANTED. Both Eminem's agent and Universal issues strong denials about the story and it was revealed to be a publicity stunt to get Millar some free press. Could this be another of Millar's stunts to get the SUPERMAN revamp he's been yapping about for years off the ground?

Source: Millar World

Extra Tidbit: Matthew Vaughn (LAYER CAKE) is currently developing Millar's KICK-ASS for film.

The girl is grossly disproportionate? Which chick are you looking at?

And while Mark Millar created Wanted, which was very entertaining, I don't think Superman would be his forte. And I don't get all the hate for Singer's work on Returns. I also realise that the whole son thing only works if you use Donner's version of Superman II, which had Supes and Lois sleeping together in the Fortress of Solitude. As I always say to people who like hating on filmmakers so vehemently (Uwe Boll aside), Either make a better one yourself, or shut the fuck up.

To Say Returns was horrible I don't think is right. It had it problems, sure, but it has been in limbo for over 10 years. Singers version is WAAAY better than the shit we wouldv've gotten. I think they woulda been better off starting from scratch and not making a sequel/remake, like they did with Batman Begins that way we would have reboots of DC's top characters, like marvel has done with Iron Man and hulk. That way we would have a jump off point for JLA. The son thing is stupid yes, but Returns was well done, considering what we couldve gotten. Besides, now that the bullshit character intros are done, the second movie can concentrate on balls to the wall action. I say have Lex back at Luthorcorp, have him work on Bizzaro, and also bring in someone like Metallo. I would even love (wont happen) to have a scene after the credits ala Iron Man where Lex begins his partnership with Wayne Interprises. To me, the perfect Batman/Superman team up would be the storyline from the cartoon where Joker and Luthor work together and Bruce and Lois start dating. I know that will never happen though.

Let this happen. I was just thinking the other day about a new Superman film, and how either Singer needed to stick to his "like Wrath of Khan" approach or just not do it at all, and let someone else helm it. "Returns" blew now that I think about. And I agree madfeebles, I dont think Routh should come back either. Mark Millar make this happen!!

I honestly hope this is true. Millar's a great writer, and Singer's Superman was f'n horrible! It was (hopefully) the last of the old breed of superhero movies where you bring in someone with no love of, or knowledge of the character, who think it'd be better to just make up their own bullshit version. And for god sake, don't bring that ladyboy Routh back!

Extra Tidbit: Sam Peckinpah was originally offered Superman. What a movie that would have been.

You know I think this is just wishful thinking for Millar. Every news bit, although not official from WB, says that Singer is going ahead with his Man of Steel sequel and Brandon Routh has stated that the writers are finishing up the script and filming will take place sometime in early 2009.

Shit-can the whole thing
Fuck it, no movie is worth beating your brains out over this much. No Superman movie will ever perform to the satisfaction of the greedy studio heads. The character just isn't the powerhouse it used to be. It's already been done, and better, by Donner. Enough. Leave it the fuck alone.

I'm all for a change
I think Singer killed the Superman franchise with he's approach of making a sequel to the original movies... it might've been cool for the fans but it made no sense at all. And after that he introduces a son... now where do you go from there? nowhere.

But I think it's too soon for a reboot, let a few more years go by, get a good writer, a good director and start from scratch

I love Superman Returns. Singer took something that is usually treated in a stupid manner and took it seriously. Ang Lee did the same with Hulk. A sequel with someone else will most likely turn out like the new Hulk. Bad, laughable, and made to cater to idiots.

That girl is really not that attractive. She is grossly disproportionate and a butterface.

Keep Singer
I really liked what Singer did with Returns, taking into account it was a good starting point for more movies to continue the story, with some more action. Like rich23483 said, the one part that really ticked me off was superman's son, I don't know where they go from there.

To hell with this...
If Singer doesn't come back then I'll be pissed. Singer did a fantastic job of bridging the gap between the original films and his own, and he did a fantastic job of keeping the spirit of Christopher Reeve alive and well. So to hell with anyone who wants to destroy that.

Bring Singer back!
Returns was damn good and deserves a sequel. Miller is so full of shit, the film wasn't even close to the disaster that Miller makes it out to be. Returns did slightly better than Begins in theaters, and it had to overcome the exact same obstacles (the two shitty movies before it).

And I can't think of a single well known action director that can top Singer on a bad day.

I hope they get Singer back for the next Supe's movie. They need to keep the next film all action. I really enjoyed Returns, I thought the Superman bits were great, the plane rescue at the films start was brilliant, but most of the character development was a bit slow. I also agree with the comments of ditching Luthor. I want to see Superman beating the living-snot out of someone like Metallo, Parasite or Doomsday; but only if they do the Doomsday/Death of Superman story as a 2 parter, to do a Singer Superman Trilogy.

(BTW - That's the lovely Lucy Pinder up there. A British glamour model.)

His greatest yet is still "The Usual Suspects" and I sort of wish he didn't stick around the super-hero world that much longer. Having said that, I thought "Superman Returns" was clever in its subtle political hints, and other than being a little too long, was a worthy reworking of the Donner world.

Millar apparently is an authority on Superman, but I don't like the idea that he would be manufacturing news to help promote his idea. Surely in thirty years he'll still have that script, and maybe can even still use it.

Us GEN X'ers and some Y's at least got to see Sup fly and save the day without the christ psychological homoerotic attachments. On the downside we also got SUPERMAN IV. But at least we had something to grow with; same goes for Batman, and all the other non-comic movie heroes/ films. It just seems that a little bit of innocence has been lost in this process to captitalize on properties. I think the last film I saw which reminded me of seeing 80's kid flicks was LEMONY SNICKETT, but for some reason it never made a return and was dropped. Yet we're left with boring POTTER movies. Ive just realized this has gone entirely off topic, so in closing; let SUPERMAN die peacefully and fuck Singer for killing him.

Singer Sucks
1st off, what a hot chick. She must be off of that Playboy-esk Fanboy Calendar thats out there. Nice! Also the reason Millar might be making news is because the guy already wrote a script before the FIRST movie even came out.

I would love nothing more then to see Singer off EVERY comic movie, out of the 3 he's done there was 1 good (x2) and it still wasn't all that accurate. I don't know what movies all these other fanboys are watching that make them think he knows anything about comics

Holy smokes what a picture! I'm hip to this news for that picture alone...I don't give a f*ck about a Superman reboot, remake, sequels. THAT picture alone deserves its own rating, and it's a f*kin' 10! I mean sewriously, wow, that IS Supergirl, in more ways than one. Seriously, wow! Porn is one thing...but a tease like that? Jeez it's hot in here!

WTF? Why all the back and forth? Give Singer the budget and let him do his thing! Why would they wanna reboot the franchise again?! RETURNS was a great movie on many levels, it had some soft spots, but they had to establish the characters again because the franchise was dormant for 20 years so it's understandable, for me at least. C'mon Warners, get on the the friggin' ball!!! Supes in 2010!!

And maybe in the next Batman he can ride a scooter instead of the Batmobile, it's just a symbol of his infertility. Also, maybe if the Silver Surfer movie is ever made they can make him pink. Don't ask me why, it'll just be better.

I'm up for another neo-Superman movie. Just so long as they leave out Lex Luthor (for chrissakes), and the Christ references.
