Soderbergh talks Ball

Not much has been heard from Steven Soderbergh even since the plug was pulled on MONEYBALL at the last minute, and being the classy guy he is he simply moved on to other things and didn’t kick a fuss about it. Still, curiosity abounds on his take of the happenings.

Talking to the Orlando Sentinel, the director did semi-confirm reports that things went sour when Sony disliked the changes he made to the original Steve Zallian script. But he still wouldn’t indulge in mud throwing as others would’ve done.

“There have been a couple of times in my career where I’ve been unceremoniously removed from projects. I don’t waste a lot of energy on it. It doesn’t get you anywhere,” the director wisely offered. “I have a couple of other things in development that I had hoped to move up, but actor’s schedules wouldn’t allow it. But I have something I can get to after the first of the year, and I’m supposed to do my Liberace movie next summer. So my attitude when something like that happens is, ‘What’s next?’ You can’t dwell on it.“

That Liberace movie, which is currently looking for financing, would see Michael Douglas and Matt Damon as respectively the famed pianist and his longtime lover. I’d rather see Bruce Campbell play Liberace, but after BUBBA HO-TEP that would just be weird…
