Spielberg & Jackson?! May. 15, 2007
Source: Variety
by: Mike Sampson

Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson have signed on to direct two installments of a planned TINTIN trilogy for DreamWorks based on the Belgian comic strip. Wow. Two of the biggest directing powerhouses agreeing ahead of time to work together on a trilogy. It can often take years for just one of these guys to get a project off the ground, so it's pretty amazing that DreamWorks is planning to start filming this year. TINTIN will be produced using performance capture technology (MONSTER HOUSE) and Jackson's WETA Digital has already produced a 20-minute promo reel. Says Jackson of adapting the comic characters for the screen: "We're making them look photorealistic; the fibers of their clothing, the pores of their skin and each individual hair. They look exactly like real people — but real Herge people!" One thing Spielberg and Jackson haven't worked out is a script. Though they've picked the stories they'd like to adapt, no screenwriter has been brought aboard to start writing a script. TINTIN tells the story of a young reporter investigating stories (and getting in and out of adventures) with his dog Snowy. Spielberg and Jackson will be busy shooting INDIANA JONES 4 and THE LOVELY BONES respectively later this year but would make TINTIN each their next projects.

Extra Tidbit: Tintin ≠ Rin Tin Tin, Rum Tum Tugger or Rikki-Tikki-Tavi

I know nothing about TinTin, but just based on the drawing above, I guarantee I won't see this movie. Looks about as watchable as the teletubbies.

SORRY EVERYONE
I hate to be that downer guy who ruins the party, but seriously, if these two powerhouses teamed up on something actually cool, I'd be excited.

I saw this show when I was little, completely forgot about it until now, mostly due to the fact it's just a kids comic/cartoon and while the technology for the movie will be cool, it's otherwise just another kids movie with unexpected talent behind it. Don't hate me for not being educated in the ways of Tintin.

Well, wake me up something truly badass comes out, and by that I mean Toy Story 3.

TT!!!

This has GOT to be THE MOST EXCITING news I've heard since...well, at LEAST since hearing about the greenlight on the fourth Indiana Jones and seeing the Transformers preview.

Holy christ, this is going to be specfrakintacular!!

Two of the best - let's face it people, THE BEST - contemporary directors, working TOGETHER on adapting one of the most exciting and wonderful series EVER.

I may well have to get a new pair of shorts on now...

YAHOO!!!

AWESOME!
I've never read the comic strips but I remember when this used to be on Nickelodeon during the day. It was one of my favorite shows. Hopefully the trilogy will recapture that.

COOL
I found bound editions of these without cover sleeves in my school library when I was a little kid in grade school and read them cover to cover. I always thought movies would be great (apparently there were some made in the UK) but figured no one in the U.S. knew what it was. When the rumors got started earlier this year I thought it would fall by the wayside, but they are going through with it! I just hope there isn't the Jackson excess the has marred his work as of late (starting with LOTR 3). Rin Tin had some cool adventures agianst spies and Nazia and stuff, when don't need a $200 million overkill to ruin these straight forward gems. Hopefully this is the start of something good.
