Street Kings trailer Feb. 11, 2008

Street Kings Monosyllabic wooden acting pioneer Keanu Reeves has a crime thriller coming up called STREET KINGS (formerly know as THE NIGHT WATCHMAN) and if you're down with that, peep the trailer courtesy of Yahoo over HERE. In it, the former savior of an underground rave culture stars as a cop who's implicated in the death of a fellow officer so he has to go up against the entire department to clear his name. Or something like that. It's K-Reev in "SPEED" mode so that should bring back some nostalgic giddiness. Hugh Laurie and Forest Whitaker co-star. HARSH TIMES director and TRAINING DAY scribe directs from a script co-written, interestingly enough, by Kurt Wimmer. Hmm, this one maybe deserves a little more attention than it's been getting. It opens April 11th.

Extra Tidbit: The film was initially titled NIGHT WATCH.

That's it! Say what you want, but the man knows how to choose projects and that's how he still in the business after more then 20 years being higly successful, despite critics bashing him the whole time. Since The Matrix sequels he was in a bunch of good movies, mostly his indies, like Thumbsucker and the very underrated A Scanner Dakly and this year he has Kings and The Day the Earth Stood Still. Plus, he isn't not near the bad actor some claim, actually, he is a good actor who still typecasted because of Ted and Neo, who became some kind of iconic characters. Street Kings is written by James Ellroy, so the full action in this preview is only a detail, the movie has a story to be told and word (after the first test screening) is that it's a GREAT movie, with action and great performances - mostly by Keanu and Hugh Laurie. This has potential to be a hit, even with the hard R rating.

I have to admit that Keanu Reeves has been in some good movies. But, he is still the most wooden actor in Hollywood. I always expect to hear him say "dude" in all of his films.

I agree that Keanu Reeves isn't THAT bad. I'd almost go so far as to say he's good, but not great. As many have pointed out already, he has entertained the hell out of us in his career.

The movie doesn't look too bad, but I'll probably wait to Netflix it. Nice to see Hugh Laurie in it, and Forest Whitaker you can't go wrong with. But, I have to say, after Chris Evans' turn in SUNSHINE, I'm interested in what more he can do. Just as long as it isn't another FANTASTIC FOUR.

Oh, and Cedric the Entertainer? Really?

A lot of people tend to forget Keanu's turn in THE GIFT. He didn't have that much screentime, but that was by far his best and most convincing performance.

Honestly, after all these years, I can't hate on Keanu. There's something about him. He's obviously not the greatest actor, but he has a presense that most new actors don't have, and lack.

Ah, Keanu Reeves jokes. How delightfully refreshing!

I hate how it's almost mandatory to rip on Keanu Reeves. He may not be one of the finest thespians of all time, but the man has had some nice turns (i.e. Thumbsucker, The Lake House), and as someone pointed out below, has consistently entertained in the majority of his roles (think Speed, The Matrix, Constantine, etc.).

It's pretty clear that he's been trying to branch out a bit, a fact that seems to have been largely ignored. Just look at his wonderful turn in "Thumbsucker" for proof of this.

A very small role? Yes. However, he did nicely in the time that he was on the screen.

Anyway, the trailer is pretty awful and makes this project look rather generic. Maybe I'm wrong about this film, but it definitely doesn't look like something I'd rush out to theaters to see.

this actually looks good. And as much as we all love to make fun of Keanu, we can't deny that he has entertained the hell out of us during his career.

It's nice to recognize Reeves as the "pioneer" of wooden acting, since you gotta admit he's taken that particular brand some pretty incredible places.
