Lucasfilm and Disney are probably going to start cranking out lots of Star Wars TV shows soon, and the trailer for their latest is finally here. Taking place a few years before the events of THE FORCE AWAKENS, the upcoming animated series STAR WARS RESISTANCE will follow a young pilot whose is given the chance to spy on the looming threat of the First Order, which of course involves lots of aircraft action. The first trailer teases a colorful, adventurous series filled with new and old faces, including the likes of Poe Dameron and the adorable ball droid, BB-8.

From producer Dave Filoni (THE CLONE WARS, REBELS), the anime-inspired show will feature plenty of aerial combat sequences and center on the young pilot Kazuda Xiono (Christopher Sean) as he spies on the aircraft Colossus, figuring out who is friend and who is foe to the Resistance. Oscar Isaac will reprise the role of Dameron for a guest spot or two, with Gwendoline Christie also lending her voice as Captain Phasma. The rest of the cast is fleshed out by Suzie McGrath as Tam Ryvora, Scott Lawrence as Jarek Yeager, Myrna Velasco as Torra Doza, Josh Brener as Neeku Vozo, Donald Faison as Hype Fazon, Jim Rash as Flix, Bobby Moynihan as Orka and Rachel Butera as General Leia Organa. The show will air on Disney Channel on October 7.

Here is the full synopsis:

In the one-hour premiere titled “The Recruit,” Poe and BB-8 assign newly-appointed spy Kaz to the Colossus, a massive aircraft re-fueling platform on an outer rim water planet, home to colorful new aliens, droids and creatures. While undercover, Kaz works as a mechanic and lives with Poe’s old friend Yeager, a veteran pilot who operates a starship repair shop run by his crew: Tam, Neeku and their old battered astromech droid, Bucket. Kaz soon finds himself in over his head with his new friend BB-8 as he’ll have to compete in dangerous sky races, keep his mission a secret from his newfound family, and avoid the danger of the First Order.

This is just one series Disney has planned for the Star Wars universe and announced that they will be bringing back THE CLONE WARS for a seventh season that will air on their upcoming streaming service. I'm curious as to why this show won't be on the streaming service, with the only reasoning I can come up with being they just want the thing out there. This could also help gauge interest in new Star Wars shows, seeing as how people clearly weren't down for SOLO: A STAR WARS STORY this summer.

STAR WARS RESISTANCE arrives on Disney Channel October 7 at 10 pm EDT/PDT.
