It's not clear if Universal and FOX have made a deal yet involving the rights to Locke & Key, but the project does now have a screenwriter. THR is reporting Albert Torres has been hired to write the Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci produced adaption of Joe Hill's comic book series.

Albert Torres wrote the screenplay for the 2008 dramedy HENRY POOLE IS HERE starring Luke Wilson, and also worked on a draft of AKIRA for Warner Bros. and BEN 10 for Silver Pictures.

Comic book synopsis from Amazon:

Locke & Key tells of Keyhouse, an unlikely New England mansion, with fantastic doors that transform all who dare to walk through them, and home to a hate-filled and relentless creature that will not rest until it forces open the most terrible door of them all!

Locke & Key is an absolutely brilliant and terrifying comic, and I have very high hopes for the adaptation. I still think it would work better as a television series, but as long as the movie is just as good as the comics, I'll be one very happy Locke & Key fan. Which director would you like to see behind the camera for the big screen version of Joe Hill's comic book series?
