Boardwalk Empire’s Jack Huston joins Martin Scorsese’s The Irishman

After the overwhelmingly positive reaction which Timur Bekmambetov's BEN-HUR received last year, Jack Huston can pretty much take his pick of projects, which includes joining the all-star cast of Martin Scorsese's THE IRISHMAN. Okay, I'm kidding about that first part, but Deadline reports that Huston really will be reuniting with his Boardwalk Empire executive producer for Scorsese's long-awaited passion project.

Jack Huston played Richard Harrow on the HBO series, a disfigured war veteran who served as a hitman for several characters. As for who Huston might be playing on THE IRISHMAN, Deadline says that that information is currently being kept under wraps. Based upon Charles Brandt’s "I Heard You Paint Houses," THE IRISHMAN will chronicle the career of Frank “The Irishman” Sheeran, a mob hitman who was supposedly involved in the death of Jimmy Hoffa. The film, which will make its home at Netflix, also boasts an embarrassingly excellent cast, with Robert De Niro, Al Pacino, Joe Pesci, Harvey Keitel, Bobby Cannavale, and Ray Romano starring in the film. Dang.

As for why THE IRISHMAN found its home at Netflix, Robert De Niro recently said that the streaming giant was the only one willing to cough up the rather hefty budget for the film, which will be making use of digital face-lifts to de-age Robert De Niro, Al Pacino, and Joe Pesci by several decades throughout the movie. We've certainly come a long way with age-defying digital makeup over the past few years, but their work will definitely be cut out for them. No matter how good THE IRISHMAN winds up being, if we don't buy Robert De Niro with several decades shaved off his face, we may have a hard time with the rest of the movie.
