Magneto is down for the count in new X-Men: Dark Phoenix image

Michael Fassbender’s Magneto has seen his fair share of troubles in the X-MEN movies, including accidentally crippling Charles Xavier (James McAvoy) in FIRST CLASS, being in prison in DAYS OF FUTURE PAST and losing his family in APOCALYPSE. Things are not going to get better for him in X-MEN: DARK PHOENIX and a new image shows he may be down for the count.

In a new picture from Empire (featured in their new issue), Fassbender's Magneto is seen looking bloody and defeated as some military gents come in to restrain him, after what looks like some sort of explosion. Maybe he got into a big fight and lost, or just went on a really, really, really bad bender.

The new movie will take place in 1992, and finds the X-Men more popular than ever for their heroic actions. Xavier then sends them on a mission to space, which results in a serious accident from a solar flare, causing a seriously dark reaction in Jean Grey (Sophie Turner). How Magento works into all this, I have no clue, but clearly, he’s not in a position to pose a very big threat.

This image comes on the heels of EW’s recent release of numerous images, as well as plot details, which is a lot considering we’re still close to a year away from the movie’s release. Perhaps Fox wants to try and right the ship after X-MEN: APOCALYPSE failed to make any waves at the box office and was one of the worst-received movies in the series. I love me some Fassbender as Magneto, and how he factors into this story is something I’m itching to learn more about. Those dudes in the picture better hope that thing they're putting on his neck is made of plastic.

X-MEN: DARK PHOENIX arrives November 2, 2018.
