A reboot of The Butterfly Effect is in the works

The Butterfly Effect

2004's THE BUTTERFLY EFFECT didn't exactly receive glowing reviews from critics, but movie goers enjoyed the film and it became a decent size hit, grossing almost $100 million in theaters. The time travel film starring Ashton Kutcher and Amy Smart also did very well in DVD sales, and it spawned two direct-to-DVD sequels. Now this is happening:

Variety is reporting that THE BUTTERFLY EFFECT will get a reboot. Eric Bress (one of the writers/directors from the original) will write the screenplay, but no word on if he'll be directing it as well. Several producers from the original will also be back for the planned reboot. There's no news on when filming is expected to start, a release date or casting at this time.

I'm not a big fan of the original like many on this site, but the idea alone offends me. Really? A reboot of THE BUTTERFLY EFFECT? I'm not even going to get into if it's too soon or not for a reboot: this is just dumb and lazy. Both of the sequels received criticism for pretty much being the same as the first and the films were ignored by the public, so what makes Bress and the producers think another f*cking time travel movie with THE BUTTERFLY EFFECT name attached to it is a good idea? Are they after our cash? Dumb question; of course they are! Although I would gladly pay money if they didn't make a reboot. Is there a Kickstarter for that?

As I said, I didn't love the original but I know many do so I can only imagine how some of you feel about this news. Feel free to share your frustration, anger and creative curse words in the Strike Back.
