New green-band trailer for Jason Bateman’s directorial debut Bad Words

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

A new green-band trailer for the Jason Bateman directed BAD WORDS has hit the web, featuring a toned-down version of the hijinks in the red-band version. However, that doesn’t stop the movie from still looking hilarious with a good layer of raunchy fun tossed in. It’s Bateman’s first foray into directing and it looks like he’s pulled out a win in the department (you can read our TIFF review here). Joined by Allison Janney, Kathryn Hahn, Rachael Harris, Philip Baker Hall, and Judith Hoag (April O’Neill!), Bateman may well have a sleeper hit on his hands.

Spell “underpants”:

Here’s the synopsis:

Bateman stars as Guy Trilby, a 40-year old who finds a loophole in the rules of the National Quill Spelling Bee and decides to cause trouble by hijacking the competition. Contest officials, outraged parents, and overly ambitious 8th graders are no match for Guy, as he ruthlessly crushes their dreams of victory and fame. As a reporter attempts to discover his true motivation, Guy finds himself forging an unlikely alliance with a competitor: awkward 10-year old Chaitanya (Rohan Chand of ‘Homeland’), who is completely unfazed by Guy’s take-no-prisoners approach to life.

It’s pretty cool to see Bateman with a stable career, as we never really saw it coming during his TEEN WOLF TOO days. At this point, even some of his lesser films are still more engaging by his presence alone. He’s got the ensemble comedy THIS IS WHERE I LEAVE YOU with Tina Fey, Rose Byrne, and Timothy Olyphant coming out later this year as well as HORRIBLE BOSSES 2 and is already jumping into his next directorial effort, THE FAMILY FANG, with Nicole Kidman. Keep on keepin’ on, Bateman!

BAD WORDS spells it out on March 28, 2014.
