Ron Howard’s Inferno starring Tom Hanks pushed to October 2016

It didn't take long for Sony Pictures to look at the calendar and remember that STAR WARS: EPISODE VII is basically going to rule all of December 2015. They have now decided to move the release of the Dan Brown adaptation INFERNO from December 18, 2015 to almost a year later on October 14, 2016. The film has Ron Howard returning to direct Tom Hanks who is reprising his role as Robert Langdon from THE DA VINCI CODE and ANGELS & DEMONS.  

Here is a synopsis:

In INFERNO, Langdon wakes up in an Italian hospital with amnesia. He teams up with Sienna Brooks, the doctor he hopes will help him recover his memories and prevent a madman from releasing a global plague connected to Dante’s Inferno. Langdon is drawn into a harrowing world centered on one of history’s most enduring and mysterious literary masterpieces…Dante’s Inferno. Against this backdrop, Langdon battles a chilling adversary and grapples with an ingenious riddle that pulls him into a landscape of classic art, secret passageways, and futuristic science. Drawing from Dante’s dark epic poem, Langdon races to find answers and decide whom to trust… before the world is irrevocably altered.

The release date was set a while ago so we could give them the benefit of the doubt and suggest it’s not because of EPISODE VII. Filming is still set to begin in April of next year after Hanks finishes his Cold War thriller with Steven Spielberg. The competition is now a lot less fierce as INFERNO will go head-to-head with A MONSTER CALLS and Andy Serkis’ JUNGLE BOOK: ORIGINS (change that title soon please) a week before.
