Ant-Man and The Wasp originally included a Captain America cameo

One of the many wonderful things about the Marvel Cinematic Universe is its ability to crossover characters, which is something we've seen more and more of as the franchise has developed. Sure, you have major crossovers such as the ones found in CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR and AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR, but you also have more low-key cameos such as Captain America briefly popping up for SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING or Falcon in ANT-MAN. Not every MCU film contains cameos from the other heroes, and the recent ANT-MAN AND THE WASP is an example of that.

ANT-MAN AND THE WASP director Peyton Reed told Radio Times that they made a choice to make the sequel more of a standalone film, especially as it would be arriving so soon after AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR. "We knew that we wanted to continue the story of these characters and then introduce our own characters that were really far more relevant to the story we were telling," Peyton explained. "Plus the fact that we were coming right after Infinity War, which is really like everyone. With the exception of Ant-Man and the Wasp and, of course, Hawkeye." That's not to say that the ANT-MAN sequel never contained any Marvel cameos however, as Reed said that an early draft of the film contained a cameo from Captain America (Chris Evans) in a Luis (Michael Peña) flashback recap of the superhero brawl in CIVIL WAR.

Early on, we had a version where we were going to do a quick version of the tarmac fight from Civil War, with some ridiculous thing where, you know, Captain America has Ant-Man as a baseball and throws him. Because the whole thing is Luis’ version of events, right? We came up with all these ridiculous visuals.

In the end, Peyton Reed decided that "It kind of felt like we’d referenced Captain America: Civil War so much, let’s just do our own thing there." It was probably for the best, but I can't help but to feel a little disappointed that it was never shot and therefore won't end up on the upcoming home-media release. Can we at least get a Michael Peña recap of the events of INFINITY WAR in ANT-MAN 3?

Would you like to have seen a Luis-fueled CIVIL WAR flashback scene or was it better left out of the film?
