We talk Free Fire with Ben Wheatley, Sharlto Copley, Brie Larson and More!

Over the past few years, Ben Wheatley has quickly become one of the most exciting modern day filmmakers. From KILL LIST to HIGH RISE, the director manages to create something unique every time. With FREE FIRE, Wheatley takes a familiar idea and ramps it up to 100. If you are looking for a brutal blast of intensity and thrills, this is what you’ve been waiting for. Starring Sharlto Copley, Brie Larson, Armie Hammer, Cillian Murphy and Sam Riley, this flick is off the charts insane with serious action!

Recently at the junket for this wonderfully wild ride, we spoke to both Sam Riley and Sharlto Copley. First things first, these two steal the movie. Both actors are clearly enjoying the ride. The two talked about playing these crazy characters, and how Ben changed the script slightly to fit their personalities. As a fan of both, it was immensely enjoyable watching these talented guys giving a ton of energy every single time they are on screen. Trust me when I say you won’t forget these two.

Next up we spoke to Brie Larson who has had a pretty decent career as of late – a bit of an understatement to say the least! Last we spoke, she took a few photographs and met a gorilla over at SKULL ISLAND. Funnily enough, both KONG and FREE FIRE take place in the Seventies. She discussed taking on a very different type of movie with a very different type of role. Not surprisingly, she is terrific here, and considering she is dealing with a bunch of marauding men, she kicks some serious ass.

Finally, we sat down with both Ben Wheatley and Armie Hammer. It is possible that Mr. Hammer may be one of the nicest guys around. One thing I found to be very interesting is that Wheatley was constantly editing on set while they were shooting. Did this help the actors? Well I asked Armie just that. Wheatley also discussed the way he worked, and how difficult it was to set things up with all the bullet holes and the myriad of actors who came to play.

FREE FIRE is brutal, hilarious and perhaps a bit shocking. If you’re looking for some serious hard-R action, make sure you check this out this weekend at a theater near you.
