The Avengers deleted scene focuses on Captain America as a man out of time

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

Some of you may be getting sick of hearing about THE AVENGERS, but I think most of us are still excited to see the onslaught of goodies that have been trickling online in preparation for the film’s blu-ray/DVD release.  Today, we have another deleted scene, this time the much talked about Captain America sequence, which shows Cap/Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) dealing with his modern-day existence, pondering a visit to a now elderly Peggy Carter, getting hit on by a familiar waitress, and being chastised by none other than Stan Lee himself.

It’s a great scene, one that feels like it belongs in a Captain America movie, rather than an Avengers film.  Regardless, it provides another sobering look at the superhero film, which we got a taste of in yesterday’s release of the alternate opening.  Seems ol’ Joss Whedon had a slightly darker tone bubbling under the surface in his longer cut of the film.

Meet the “man out of time”:

It’s really cool to see the waitress (Ashley Johnson) interact with Rogers early on, which enhances her commentary about Cap at the end of the film.  The Stan Lee cameo is probably my favorite.  Just seeing Stan Lee talk to Cap is pretty damn awesome, so that sells it right there.

THE AVENGERS hits blu-ray/DVD on September 25, 2012.
