Sausage Party director to direct Toxic Avenger remake

Last Updated on July 31, 2021

I'm going to put it out there: I don't particularly like Troma films. I understand they have their fans, and trust me I understand their appeal, it's just not quite my thing (I like my bad, cheap, camp movies to not be so self-aware). Having said that, I am intrigued by the idea of TOXIC AVENGER reboot. Probably curiosity more than anything, since part of the first series' charm was the fact that it was so cheap and nasty. Does the film work anymore if you a) make it more slick and competent, and b) sanitize its amorous and offensive world-view?

Well, we'll supposedly see soon as SAUSAGE PARTY co-director Conrad Vernon has just signed on to direct the TOXIC AVENGER reboot. This seems actually like a relatively nice fit (though this seems like something Eli Roth was born to remake), since SAUSAGE PARTY was so raunchy and offensive as well. Hopefully that means that aspect of TOXIC AVENGER won't be neutered, and may even point to the possibility of an R-rating (which would make sense in light of DEADPOOL's massive success). It looks like the "efficient management" of Vernon's last production is really paying off!

No release date set yet, and no news if Arnold Schwarzenegger is still involved, though at this point it seems unlikely.

So any Troma fans out there? If so, favorite film?
