Antoine Fuqua on Equalizer 3 & wanting Denzel Washington for Scarface

The recently released sequel to THE EQUALIZER finds Denzel Washington reprising his role Robert McCall, the former black-ops agent who now dispenses hard-hitting justice to those who deserve it. THE EQUALIZER 2 was the first sequel of both Denzel Washington and Antoine Fuqua's careers, and with the film performing well, could it be possible that they return for a third outing? Antoine Fuqua spoke with THR about the sequel and was asked if he'd be down for THE EQUALIZER 3.

Yeah, absolutely. Personally, I’d love for it to happen. I mean the audience has spoken, so hopefully it’ll continue to do well in its life. Sony has brought it up and talked about it. It would be great to do it again. It would be great to do it again with Denzel. I'm looking forward to The Equalizer 3 if that happens. I would love for it to take place internationally, I think Denzel would be a great James Bond type character. [Denzel and I] talk about a lot of different things. I’ve got somethings I’m developing and roles I’d like him to play. Normally, that’s how it works with him. I'm dreaming him up as a cowboy or something and then I’ve got to go pitch it.

Should the film continue to perform well, I don't see any reason to doubt that a third installment of THE EQUALIZER won't be considered, but Antoine Fuqua has another project on his plate at the moment, the frequently delayed remake of SCARFACE.

Antoine Fuqua was slated to helm the SCARFACE remake several years ago, but he later dropped out due to scheduling conflicts with THE EQUALIZER 2 only to return earlier this year. As Denzel Washington is one of Fuqua's most frequent collaborators, many have been wondering if there's room for the actor in the SCARFACE remake. Turns out, Fuqua wants him for the leading role. "My dream is for him to be Scarface. He laughs sometimes and he kind of goes, 'Pacino did a great job! I don’t want to do that,'" Fuqua said. "I’m nudging him. I’m trying to nudge him into doing it." It doesn't sound like Washington is on board with the idea just yet, but who knows what could happen in the future.
