Denzel Washington and Mark Wahlberg get caught in a triple cross in the trailer for comic adaptation 2 Guns

Well, this is a nice Good Friday surprise. I knew for a while that an adaptation of the comic 2 GUNS was coming, but I didn’t expect it to look as good as this trailer presents. Mark Wahlberg and Denzel Washington look like an ideal duo in this buddy flick. I have to say this trailer made me think of TANGO & CASH if it were directed by old school Michael Bay.

Washington and Wahlberg play operatives from competing bureaus who are forced on the run together. But there is a big problem with their unique alliance: Neither knows that the other is an undercover federal agent. This is further complicated when they realize that they are not investigating money from the mob but rather something to do with the CIA. What comes off as a double cross becomes a triple cross and maybe even a quadruple cross, I can’t fully tell from this well made trailer.

Directed by Baltasar Kormakur (CONTRABAND), 2 GUNS looks like a nice Summer action movie, one that will hopefully be rated R. Wahlberg looks like he is having fun, which is nice to see. When he plays it overly serious he loses me as a fan. The biggest plus here is Denzel finally playing a slightly different role. Here is lighter, playing with comedy and action, and looks better than he has in years. At first, I thought this was going to be another TRAINING DAY role, but I like that this movie is taking a LETHAL WEAPON approach to the comedy and action.

2 GUNS starring Mark Wahlberg, Denzel Washington, James Marsden, Fred Ward, Paula Patton‘s ass, Edward James Olmos, and Bill Paxton, opens on August 2, 2013.
