Horror novel The Merciless to get a big screen adaptation

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

The upcoming debut novel "The Merciless" from Danielle Vega is set to hit bookshelves next month and already has a movie adaptation in the works. Teen series PRETTY LITTLE LIARS creator Marlene King will turn the horror novel into a movie for Lionsgate and serve as an executive producer she announced today on Twitter.

She won't be stepping out of PLL (as the kids call it) territory too much as both that show and "The Merciless" involve the murder of a teenage girl and revolves around her four friends who many suspect of killing her.

Here’s a synopsis of the book:

“The Merciless” is a story of “good girls gone evil, “as the new girl in a small town is forced to join in the exorcism of a punky, rebellious classmate if she wants to be in the popular crowd.

Times have certainly changed since I was in High school; if you wanted to fit in you just had to pretend to like crappy music and hate your parents. Taking part in an exorcism would be a whole different ball game.

There's no word yet on a potential cast, but PLL star and SPRING BREAKERS alum Ashley Benson would be a top shelf choice if you ask me.

"The Merciless" novel will hit stores June 12 2014.
