Hulu plots Less Than Zero adaptation from Greenleaf creator Craig Wright

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

Hulu is making plans to develop a TV adaptation of LESS THAN ZERO. Based on the 1985 novel of the same name written by Bret Easton Ellis, the story centers on Clay, a college freshman returning home for Christmas to spend time with his ex-girlfriend, Blair, and his friend Julian, who struggles with addiction. When Clay makes an an effort to get them both sober, he runs afoul of an uncaring dealer who Julian owes a large sum of money. Spearheading the project for Hulu is GREENLEAF creator Craig Wright.

If the LESS THAN ZERO title sounds familiar, it's likely because a film based on Ellis' book was released in 1987. Directed by Marek Kanievsha and starring Andrew McCarthy, Jami Gertz, Robert Downey Jr., and James Spader, LESS THAN ZERO was co-written by Ellis alongside Harley Peyton for 20th Century Fox. No casting announcements have been made for the project, thus far. Nor have we been made aware of the project's episode count. In fact, you could say we know … almost less than zero about this adaptation.

Are you familiar with the 1987 original film? Are you excited to see what new drama Wright adds to the story for the TV format? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
