New Girl’s Hannah Simone to suit up for Greatest American Hero series

Believe it or not, but the reboot of the TV show THE GREATEST AMERICAN HERO is indeed coming our way, and this time with a dramatic shift in our leading hero. This time around the character will be played by an Indian-American woman, and news recently broke that NEW GIRL actress Hannah Simone shall be graced with the super suit.

In the new series from FRESH OFF THE BOAT’s Rachna Fruchbom and Nahnatchka Khan we will find Simone taking on the role of Meera, a 30-year-old woman who does nothing but party as she struggles to find meaning in her life. But soon, she is given a super suit by an alien race and is told to use it for the betterment of mankind. You would think this would force her to straighten up and fly right, but good behavior doesn’t often make for good comedy.

The original series ran for three seasons from 1981 to 1983 on ABC with William Katt in the role. Simone will likely start on AMERICAN HERO this year as NEW GIRL returns for the final season this April. She has been appearing in movies like BAND AID and KILLING GUNTHER and hosted the reality show KICKING AND SCREAMING, which has since been canceled.

NEW GIRL has a pretty massive following, and word is Simon was highly sought after for this upcoming pilot season. Having only seen a few episodes myself, I can say that I found Simon charming and funny, and I believe she can do a fine job with a quirky role like this. Zooey Deschanel has been hogging all the quirk on GIRL, but now it's Simone's turn, dammit!
