It’s Elvis vs. aliens in the new Bubba Ho-Tep comic book prequel

In 2018, the King of Rock and Roll will shake his hips and karate chop his way through a potential extra-terrestrial threat for "Tricky Dick" Nixon in Bubba Ho-Tep and the Cosmic Blood-Suckers, a comic book prequel to the original story by Joe R. Lansdale that inspired the criminally underrated 2002 cult film starring Bruce Campbell. So grab your best rhinestone jumpsuit, a peanut butter and banana sandwich or two, and get ready to take care of business, baby!

Set to be published by the indie comic book label IDW, the prequel chapter starring The King himself will be co-written by Lansdale with Joshua Jabcuga (The Mummy, Scarface), the series is illustrated by Todd Galusha (In the Dark) and features a cover by Baldemar Rivas.

In Bubba Ho-Tep and the Cosmic Blood-Suckers, President Richard Nixon has uncovered a potential threat from beyond the stars, but there’s only one man who could possibly safeguard the world as we know it: Elvis Aaron Presley.

“Bubba Ho-Tep was an accidental story that turned out to be my first film adaptation, and it's still going strong in story and film,” Lansdale recently told Heat Vision. “And finally, it has inspired a background story that was first a novel, and is now represented in the medium that first made me want to be a writer: Comics. Graphic novels. What we used to call Funny Books. I'm excited and looking forward to readers discovering it all in color and looking fine."

Lansdale also teased that more adventures featuring Elvis "The Pelvis" Presley could be on the way if sales of the first comic series go well by adding, "May more Bubba comics burst into existence and give the world the true story of how the world has been protected from evil, and for quite some time. Thank goodness these defenders are out there, working in the shadows.”

While it's not the long-teased prequel film BUBBA NOSFERATU: CURSE OF THE SHE-VAMPIRES, I'm more than happy to get a proper Bubba tale by way of a brand-new comic series. Honestly, I'll take any iteration I can get of Campbell's Elvis, as he gyrates in the direction of the supernatural scum that secretly plague our society from the shadows. Bring it on!
