EPISODE 6: The Climb

THE PLOT : The long summer is at an end, winter truly is coming and with it the cold winds of war as five self proclaimed Kings claim dominance over Westeros, but there can be only one winner when you play the game of thrones.

THE LOWDOWN: (The following column contains MAJOR SPOILERS, so I don’t recommend reading this if you haven’t watched this episode). Sam and Gilly are the absolute most unlikely union of characters in this show, but are they ever adorable. And Sam’s Dragonglass dagger is looking awfully badass. Don’t worry, he’ll be breaking that bad boy in soon enough (figured it might happen tonight, judging by how big that fire was. Not exactly captain inconspicuous). Not much changed for Theon, except that it looks like he’s down to nine fingers. His torturer feels like Joffrey’s long lost brother. They had to have been separated at birth, cause dude’s a viciously evil little bastard. All he needs is a crossbow.

Climbing the wall doesn’t look like much fun. Wildlings aren’t too bright, but Jon Snow is and the look on his face before they start is proof that maybe ignorance is bliss. Of course, clearly not all wildlings are ignorant, because Ygritte is quick to put him on Front Street about secrets and loyalty. A clever girl knows where to make her alliances, and I respect the hell out of that. And so does Jon Snow. The avalanche didn’t look like good times either, and it didn’t take long for Warg-boy to jump at the chance to screw Snow over. Thankfully it didn’t work, but I’ll say this, the first I’d have done once I got to the top (after kissing the damn ground) would’ve been to throw his monkey ass into the sunset. Let’s see your eagle save you from that numb nuts.

I found Arya’s meeting with Melisandre to be most interesting, and I can only imagine what’s going through her head when she hears them speak the words Jaqen H’ghar told her before he left. I know she wants to find him, but seeing this must shake that foundation a bit. I can’t wait to see the day when her bite can live up to her bark (or what happens when she and Melisandre meet again). I like Roose Bolton, he’s treating Jamie and Brienne fairly (to a point), but he also knows the right choices to make. And letting Jamie go home is definitely the right choice. Ahhh, choices. One of the greatest things about this show is how quickly things change. Varys and Littlefinger share a verbal bout, the first in a long time, only this time Littlefinger proves victor. The shift of scenes to Joffrey holding a crossbow and then panning out to see what became of Roz certainly gets the point across.

GAME OF THRONES SEASON 3’s sixth episode sees many a change to the game plan. Things are King’s Landing are completely f*cked. Tywin’s got it all in check (his and Granny Tyrell’s entire discussion was gold, but nothing beats the look on his face when she asks if he’d ever crossed swords with any of the boys growing up). Sansa’s never going to catch a break, this much is clear. Poor girl should just jump out the window and be done with it. Tyrion, well, he’s not fairing any better lately, and although they didn’t show it, I can only imagine how awkward that discussion between him and Sansa was with Shae in the room. And then there’s Robb and Lord Frey’s demands. Every nerve ending in my body cringes at the thought.

SEX/NUDITY: : Roz is naked. She’s dead of course, but still naked. It’s unclear as to whether or not Joffrey hit that with his tiny arrow first, but I’m assuming not.

VIOLENCE: Theon makes me appreciate having all my fingers. And, well, see the previous line.

SHARPEST QUIP: Osha and Meera don’t seem to be getting along and once the conversation gets heated, Osha loses her temper. Osha: “You’ve got a big mouth girl. And too many teeth.” I’m going to make it a point to have my girl use that line sometime. Hopefully not on me.

MOST EPIC SCENE: It’s a tough call. I love seeing Varys and Littlefinger have at it, but Granny Tyrell and Tywin Lannister were toe to toe there for a while. It was most entertaining.
