Facebook has ordered a dramedy starring Elizabeth Olsen to series

Are you looking for more ways to spend time on Facebook? Oh, c'mon, of course you are! Well, for those who enjoy the social platform's unique set of original content, word has come in that Facebook has given a ten-episode straight-to-series order to a half-hour female-driven dramedy, starring Elizabeth Olsen.

In addition to starring in the project, Olsen will also executive produce the series scheduled for release on Facebook Watch, the site's streaming platform. Created and written by Kit Steinkellner (Z: THE BEGINNING OF EVERYTHING), with SWITCHED AT BIRTH creator Lizzy Weiss serving as showrunner and James Ponsolt (MASTER ON NONE) poised to executive produce and direct multiple episodes, including the pilot, the show will mark a high-value get for the social network.

Originally set up at SHOWTIME, Olsen is thought to be playing a young widow dealing with grief while reconnecting with relationships from her past. If that sounds like your jam, you might want to head on over to YouTube Red and check out WIDOW, a half-hour pilot that dabbles in the same themes as Olsen's new vehicle.

In speaking about the new project, Olsen released a statement saying “I couldn’t be prouder of the group we have brought together for this show,” Olsen remarked. “Kit’s story has been near and dear to me for years and I can’t wait to share our dark, funny, and complicated show with the world.“

With her star on the rise since appearing in films like WIND RIVER, INGRID GOES WEST, and Marvel's AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR, it's nice to see that at least one of the Olsen sisters has made a successful jump to the big screen.

It should prove interesting to see what manner of legs this new series has, once it premieres on Facebook's streaming network. I've personally never thought of Facebook as anything more than a way of keeping in touch with family and friends, though there's apparently a growing market for long-form original content on the platform as well. I suppose that I'm just out of touch with what the kids are watching, these days.
