Alex Winter gives us a status update on the third Bill and Ted movie

You would think in a movie industry besotted with sequels and remakes that it would not be this hard to make a GHOSTBUSTERS 3 or a third BILL AND TED movie, but here we are over two decades removed from BILL AND TED’S BOGUS JOURNEY. We have been promised multiple times in the last few years that progress has been made on the next adventure for Bill S. Preston, Esq. and Ted Theodore Logan. For a while, even Keanu Reeves himself seemed confident the movie was coming soon. But, now co-star Alex Winter has publicly stated where the project is. Brace yourselves.

“Well the funny thing is there really isn’t a hold up. Nothing held it up other than it got leaked really early in the process, so these things take a shitload of time to get bobbed around and we are really just in the process. It’s really mundane to report the day-to-day process of trying to get a movie made. ‘Right now they’re doing a rewrite?’ You know? That’s my news, ‘they are doing a rewrite.’

That will take a while and then we will look at it and that might need another rewrite and that will be my next bit of news. So it’s just like… The short answer is it got leaked way too early. It got leaked just as we started, me and Keanu and Chris and Ed, the two writers just started to put it together. Then you’ve got the whole genesis of putting it together in front of you still, which is where we are at now.”

Damn rewrites! That is the same excuse for the stalled GHOSTBUSTERS movie, too! I think rewrites is studio speak for never gonna happen. Winter has been working as a director of documentaries, commercials, and music videos for the last fifteen years while Keanu has wavered from A-list actor to obscure star of 47 RONIN. Between these two guys, I cannot fathom why they cannot get this movie financed independently and just direct it themselves. Or, even go through Kickstarter. I can imagine thousands of fans of the series who would kick in some dough to get it made.

So, for now, enjoy the two movies we do have because this is not sounding promising.
