Something cold stalks the Royal Navy in new trailer for AMC’s The Terror

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

Dripping with atmosphere and skin-ripping chills, The Terror has already secured itself a position on my list of must-watch TV for 2018, and the most recent trailer for the upcoming AMC series only confirms that I've made the right choice.  Based upon Dan Simmons' novel of the same name, which itself was inspired by true events, Ridley Scott's AMC series The Terror follows two ships, HMS Erebus and HMS Terror, as they depart England on a perilous voyage into uncharted territory to discover the Northwest Passage. However, the ships become trapped in the ice and the frozen and isolated crew find themselves faced with treacherous conditions and limited resources as they're pushed to the brink of extinction. To make matters worse, some deadly unseen terror appears to be stalking the crew. I'm not about to keep my fingers crossed for a happy ending.

"The Terror captures a rare combination of fascinating history, complex and flawed characters, the inextinguishable human spirit and the horror and promise of an uncharted world," said executive producers and co-showrunners David Kajganich and Soo Hugh in a statement. The Terror Jared Harris, Tobias Menzies, and Ciarán Hinds.

The official synopsis of The Terror:

Inspired by a true story, The Terror, from executive producers Ridley Scott, David Kajganich and Soo Hugh, takes viewers on a harrowing journey. The story centers on the Royal Navy’s perilous voyage into uncharted territory as the crew attempts to discover the Northwest Passage. Faced with treacherous conditions, limited resources, dwindling hope and fear of the unknown, the crew is pushed to the brink of extinction. Frozen, isolated and stuck at the end of the earth, The Terror highlights all that can go wrong when a group of men, desperate to survive, struggle not only with the elements, but with each other.

The Terror will debut on AMC on March 26, 2018.
