Our Favorite Movie Easter Eggs: Amazing Spider-Man, Indiana Jones and more!

movie easter eggs

These days, part of the fun of watching a movie in theaters or at home with the ability to freeze frames, is finding the  Easter eggs hidden within. For the history buffs out there, the origin of the cinematic Easter egg dates back to THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW. Supposedly one day on the set, the cast decided to have a traditional Easter egg hunt, as you do, but some of the eggs were never found and actually appeared in frames of the movie! So if you're obsessed with finding hidden messages, jokes, and ways to make you look smart in front of your friends, check out these Easter eggs!

Understandably some of these have been around for a while, but some may be new to other readers; there’s no expiration date on sharing so enjoy and have fun!

**POSSIBLE SPOILERS**

THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 – The bell tolls for Gwen

amazing spider man 2 gwen

It was inevitable that Gwen Stacy was going to die in THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2. The trailer didn’t leave much to the imagination for readers of the comics when we could see that she was wearing the same clothes that she died in on the comic pages. That was a nod of course, but a more subtle nod was when the broken hands of the clock finally stop spinning to point at 1:21, Gwen Stacy died in Amazing Spider-Man #121 "The Night Gwen Stacy Died". Too bad Spider-Man couldn’t web sling around the world really fast to reverse time right?

THE FANTASTIC FOUR– Victor Von Doom is online

the fantastic four 2015

During the recent trailer for the upcoming reboot of THE FANTASTIC FOUR we get a quick tour of the Baxter Building, a Manhattan-based government research facility. We see Susan Storm busy at work in front of a few computer screens. For those with good sight and HD capabilities you can see a few numbers on the bottom left-hand corner of the screen, 23.21.190.125. That’s what we in the business call an IP address and when put into your address bar it takes you to the hisotry of Latveria – home of the enigmatic villain, Victor Von Doom!

So does this mean something for the movie? Probably, sure I’ll go with that. It’s likely that Victor would in some way be linked to his home nation so maybe the brilliant scientist with the iron mask and the twisted brain will come out and play.

RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK – Friendship in hieroglyphs

This classic egg has been making the rounds for a long time now but it’s certainly one of the best. George Lucas and Steven Spielberg’s mutual man crush on each other has given us its share of eggs to look out for in their respective films but this one in RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK stands out as my favorite.

Everyone’s favorite droids R2-D2 and C-3PO appear in Raiders of the Lost Ark in the scene where Indiana Jones is lifting the Ark of the Covenant out of its holding place in the Well of Souls, one of the hieroglyphs resembles the famous Star Wars characters. It looks like Lucas returned the favour by putting E.T. in THE PHANTOM MENACE. If you want to call that a favour.

LIAR LIAR – Safety first

Leave it to Jim Carrey to somehow make a cameo in his own movie. Once upon a time Carrey was a cast member on the sketch show In Living Color, and one of his most famous characters was Fire Marshal Bill. Bill would put himself through hell to show how dangerous fire could be as seen in the clip below. In the final scene of LIAR LIAR, when crazy things happen and a crowd gathers you can see a glimpse of Carrey as Fire Marshal get-up, facing the camera, with a walkie-talkie in his hands.
