Game of Thrones costume featurette shows off some new footage

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

Winter is almost here! Well, the new, penultimate seventh season of GAME OF THRONES is almost here at least. Otherwise, judging by the Los Angeles weather, winter is anything but here. However, even more apt, it seems that after what feels like forever ago, Winter (i.e. the White Walkers and the fantastical years long winter) will indeed finally come to the Seven Kingdoms. Hell, recently HBO changed the tagline to “All Men Must Die” because winter was taking too long.

In anticipation, HBO has released new featurettes, including this one on costume design (one of the many things the show excels at). There’s even some new footage sprinkled throughout, so enjoy:

To be fair, all of the new footage is just snippets here and there of the characters in various locales, looking solemn. Besides The Hound playing with snow and smiling (though that’s doubtful if the character himself will play with snow, or if it’s just the actor having some fun). I mean, I’m sure people smarter than me can surmise plot points from the bits of new footage, but I didn’t glean much new.

However, while a bit of a short fluff piece, I still found this to be fun as a look inside the importance of costumes and costume making. It’s nothing compared to similar documentaries on the LORD OF THE RINGS DVDs or anything, but certain reflections, like the ideas behind the creative process (coastal kingdoms would be more flamboyant, Winterfell would have more emboidery, etc.) were interesting if not groundbreaking.

Meanwhile, GAME OF THRONES season 7 will premiere on HBO July 16th, 2017.
