Incredibles 2 has a heroic opening!

Pixar's superpowered family returned to theaters in a sensational way this weekend as INCREDIBLES 2 zoomed to first place with an estimated opening of $180 million!

Fourteen years after their first adventure, the Parr clan set a new record for best opening of any animated feature, dashing past the $135 million start of 2016's FINDING DORY to easily become Pixar's biggest opening yet.

Writer-director Brad Bird's sequel also narrowly defeated the $179 million opening weekend of Marvel's CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR to grab the eighth spot of all-time best domestic openings. (It's certainly an improvement for Bird, whose last feature TOMORROWLAND started with $33 million and ended under $100 million domestic.)

The original THE INCREDIBLES opened with $70.4 million back in 2004 and went on to a domestic total of $261.4 million and a worldwide finish of $633 million.

While no official budget information has been released for INCREDIBLES 2, Pixar's FINDING DORY cost a reported $200 million, so the superhero sequel is likely also in that range. The costumed (but cape-free) follow-up has pulled in an additional $51.5 million from international audiences so far.

Critics enthusiastically welcomed the latest exciting exploits of the extraordinary family, giving INCREDIBLES 2 a 94% average on Rotten Tomatoes. You can check out the JoBlo review HERE.

The felonious females of OCEAN'S 8 shifted to second place with $19.5 million, pickpocketed by 53% from last week's #1 opening. The PG-13 crime-comedy spinoff has a ten-day domestic total of $79.1 million and a current worldwide total of $116.2 million (on a reported $70 million cost).

In third place was the new comedy TAG with an opening of $14.6 million.

Somehow based on a true story, the R-rated competition of adults (including Jeremy Renner, Jon Hamm and Hannibal Buress) continuing the titular childhood game cost a reported $28 million.

Critics mostly shrugged at the chase to determine who is "it", giving the movie an average of 56% on Rotten Tomatoes. You can reach out and tag the JoBlo review HERE.

SOLO: A STAR WARS STORY slowed to fourth with $9 million, bringing the Ron Howard-directed prequel to a domestic total of $192.8 million. The anthology chronicle of Han's early criminal career has a worldwide total of $339 million (on a cost rumored to be $300 million).

In fifth place was R-rated sequel DEADPOOL 2 with $8.8 million. Ryan Reynolds' relentlessly chatty mercenary has a domestic total of $294.6 million after five weekends in release.

The $110 million action-comedy is up to a worldwide total of $689 million, now the third-biggest release in the X-franchise behind the $747 million finish of X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST and the $783 million total of the original DEADPOOL.

The Gabriel Byrne/Toni Collette horror movie HEREDITARY was in sixth place with $7 million, with 48% of business frightened away since its opening last week. The R-rated tale of family tragedy and terror has a ten-day domestic total of $27.1 million on a reported $10 million cost.

Opening in seventh place was the new action-crime movie SUPERFLY with $6.3 million, and a domestic total of $8.4 million since its Wednesday start.

The R-rated remake of the 1972 blaxploitation movie, with actor-singer Trevor Jackson now portraying the drug-dealer of the title, cost a reported $16 million.

Critics weren't particularly intrigued by the stylish effort from music-video maestro Director X, giving the movie a 54% average on Rotten Tomatoes.

AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR was in eighth with $5.2 million, taking the super-sequel to a domestic total of $664.1 million after two months in theaters. Marvel's spectacular clash has reached $2.02 billion worldwide, putting it behind the $2.06 billion global finish of STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS.

The Shailene Woodley/Sam Claflin ocean drama ADRIFT was in ninth with $2.1 million, and the elder romcom BOOK CLUB closed out the list over its fifth weekend on screens.

Outside the chart, Melissa McCarthy's LIFE OF THE PARTY said goodbye along with Blumhouse's brutal revenge movie UPGRADE and the crime-drama HOTEL ARTEMIS (after one week in the Top 10). Meanwhile, Disney's adaptation of A WRINKLE IN TIME got one last theatrical push to nudge it over the $100 million domestic mark.

John Travolta's R-rated biopic of notorious crime boss GOTTI opened on 503 screens and made $1.6 million while also becoming the rare recipient of a 0% average on Rotten Tomatoes.

And before it stomps into North American theaters next week, the dinosequel JURASSIC WORLD: FALLEN KINGDOM has bitten into $370 million from overseas crowds.

Next weekend, Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard will contend with those beasts in JURASSIC WORLD: FALLEN KINGDOM as the only major release.
