A few months back we received word that Tom Hanks would be portraying Captain Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger, the man who successfully pulled off the miraculous emergency landing of US Airways Flight 1549 in the Hudson River. Director Clint Eastwood certainly couldn't land himself a more charismatic leading man, but it looks like he's also reeled in a hell of an actor to play his co-pilot; Aaron Eckhart.

Eckhart will be playing Jeff Skiles, who was the co-pilot and first officer of the Airbus A320. Birds crashed into the engines while he was manually piloting, and he ended up assisting Sully in safely landing the massive plane in what would later be referred to as the "Miracle on the Hudson."

Eckhart's filmography is up and down, but the man never fails to bring intensity to whatever role he's in. Tom Hanks will undoubtedly bring all the humanity the film needs, so Eckhart should prove to be a great co-pilot to his captain. In any case, Eastwood's latest should prove to be just as compelling, if not moreso, than his last cinematic venture (AMERICAN SNIPER).

Aaron Eckhart can be seen next in LONDON HAS FALLEN, which hits theaters on January 22, 2016.
