Curb Your Enthusiasm is the latest victim of HBO leaks

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

HBO is under fire from hackers once again, and they have faced a cyber-attack that has resulted in the leak of more of their upcoming shows. In this case, let’s just say the leak was pretttttaay, pretttttaay, prettttaay bad.

It was recently reported that several episodes from the upcoming season of the Larry David-led CURB YOUR ENTHUSIASM were stolen from HBO servers and leaked onto the internet by an unidentified hacker. The leak comes as a pretty serious hit, as the show was not set to be released until October, and as of now almost no footage has been shown of the returning comedy hit.  HBO put out a statement, reiterating it won’t “play” the hackers games:

We are not in communication with the hacker and we’re not going to comment every time a new piece of information is released. It has been widely reported that there was a cyber incident at HBO. The hacker may continue to drop bits and pieces of stolen information in an attempt to generate media attention. That’s a game we’re not going to participate in. Obviously, no company wants their proprietary information stolen and released on the internet. Transparency with our employees, partners, and the creative talent that works with us has been our focus throughout this incident and will remain our focus as we move forward. This incident has not deterred us from ensuring HBO continues to do what we do best.

On top of ENTHUSIASM, the hacker(s) also took episodes of INSECURE, Dwayne Johnson’s BALLERS and the James Franco series THE DEUCE. This is not the first time HBO has been attacked, as just a few weeks ago hackers leaked episode data for GAME OF THRONES in an attempt to ransom money from HBO. In a leaked message between HBO and the hacker(s), it was revealed HBO offered a "bounty payment" of around $250,000.

Hackers are a huge problem in our society given the fact that every piece of data is stored digitally. As long as you know how to manipulate code the world's secrets are at your finger tips. Given the severity of damage that can cause, I'd say losing a few episodes of television isn't the worst can happen. Nevertheless it's a dick move to release episodes so trolls can spoil it for everyone on message boards, and hopefully, those excited for the show can keep their gaze away from any revealing info so they can watch the show spoil-free when it comes out.

CURB YOUR ENTHUSIASM is set to release on October 1.
