The Disney Channel has ordered a Star Wars Resistance animated series

The Disney Channel announced today that they've granted a series order to STAR WARS RESISTANCE, an animated TV show to be hosted via the family-friendly network. When the new animation arrives, it will focus on Kazuda Xiono, a young pilot recruited by the Resistance whose mission is to spy on the growing threat of the First Order. Set to premiere on the Disney Channel in the U.S. and on Disney XD worldwide, the new animated program will see Star Wars actors Oscar Isaac and Gwendoline Christie return to voice their characters, Poe Dameron and Captain Phasma, respectively, as guests of the upcoming program.

STAR WARS RESISTANCE was created by Lucasfilm Animation veteran Dave Filoni (STAR WARS: THE CLONE WARS, STAR WARS REBELS), who will executive produce with Star Wars animation alums Athena Portillo, Justin Ridge and Brandon Auman of TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES fame. Amy Beth Christenson, whose work on STAR WARS: THE CLONE WARS and STAR WARS REBELS has been celebrated by fans for the past several years, will serve as the show's art director.

"The idea for Star Wars Resistance came out of my interest in World War II aircraft and fighter pilots," Filoni shared. "My grandfather was a pilot and my uncle flew and restored planes, so that's been a big influence on me. There's a long history of high-speed racing in Star Wars, and I think we've captured that sense of excitement in an anime-inspired style, which is something the entire team has been wanting to do for a long time."

When STAR WARS RESISTANCE makes its Disney Channel bow, the new series will feature the voices of Christopher Sean (HAWAII FIVE-O), Suzie McGrath (POWER HUNGRY), Scott Lawrence (LEGION), Myrna Velasco (SOCIAL NORM), Josh Brener (SILICON VALLEY), Donald Faison (SCRUBS), Bobby Moynihan (DuUCKTALES), Jim Rash (COMMUNITY, BEYOND STRANGER THINGS) and Rachel Butera (HIGH SCHOOL USA!), in addition to Isaac and Christie's guest roles.
