NBC chairman says the Constantine pilot is “dark, interesting, and witty”

Last week it was announced the Constantine pilot was picked up by NBC, and in an interview with chairman Robert Greenblatt, IGN asked him if the planned series will focus on the supernatural and horror elements from the comics, or if it will have other characters and pieces from the DC Comics universe. Greenblatt says he isn't that familiar with the comics, but says there is some dark and interesting stuff in the pilot. He also says it's scary, but has a fun tone.

“I don’t know the DC comic very well, but there is dark, interesting stuff in it, but it’s also got some witty banter. It’s a fun tone, although the supernatural stuff is scary.”

Television series based on DC Comics are already airing on two other networks (Arrow and probably Flash on The CW, the upcoming Gotham on FOX), so is there a chance there could be crossovers across the networks since all three are being produced by Warner Bros? Greenblatt says it would be incredibly hard to do, and he wants to see how the pilot does before exploring that option.

“Cross-network is really hard. It’s hard enough to do it within your network. I think let us see how the pilot goes before we answer that question!”

I could see crossovers between Gotham and Arrow (and obviously Arrow and Flash), but Constantine would be a little more difficult in my opinion, and I think some people who don't know that much about the character would be confused as to why he's appearing on those shows. I know some who loved the movie with Keanu Reeves, but had no clue it was based off of a comic. But NBC could always decide they aren't going to move forward with Constantine (similar to what happened when the network tried to make a Wonder Woman series with David E. Kelley a few years ago), so let's not get too wrapped up in potential crossovers when the pilot hasn't even aired yet.
