Game of Thrones could end up with its final two seasons being shorter

There could be less GAME OF THRONES on the horizon??

Who the hell is the genius promoting that idea?

It's showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss actually, who are considering the idea of running less episodes for the series' final two seasons rather than the standard 10-episodes we've gotten since the show's beginning. In an interview with Variety, Benioff laid out his plan.

I think we’re down to our final 13 episodes after this season. We’re heading into the final lap. That’s the guess, though nothing is yet set in stone, but that’s what we’re looking at.

Season Seven would consist of seven episodes with Season Eight wrapping up our time in Westeros with six more, and then that would be it. Of course HBO quickly dispelled that those plans are set in stone with HBO programming president Michael Lombardo remarking, “We’re still in conversations," but it's clear that Benioff and Weiss think it has become incredibly difficult to maintain that 10-episode order per season in the timeframe that is asked of them.

As a fan, the last thing I want is less GAME OF THRONES. 10 episodes has been a sweet spot for the show, giving you enough to leave you satisfied when a season is over while also cutting things off at a point that always leaves you wanting more. But I'm also only sitting on my couch enjoying these episodes. I'm not putting my heart and soul into the production to make it happen, working myself exhausted. Therefore, while I may not like it, I can understand where Weiss and Benioff are coming from. It just sucks that it might have to be that way as we reach the end. 

GAME OF THRONES Season Six is set to premiere on HBO on April 24.
