The family crime drama THE JUDGE starring Robert Downey Jr. and Robert Duvall has delivered a trailer that I wasn't quite expecting. Downey has taken off his action hero armour for this character driven drama which he produced with his wife, Susan Downey.
Here’s the synopsis followed by the first trailer:
Hank Palmer (Robert Downey Jr.) returns to his childhood home where his estranged father, the town's judge (Robert Duvall), is suspected of murder. He sets out to discover the truth and along the way reconnects with the family he walked away from years before.
The Judge is directed by David Dobkin who is responsible for comedies like THE CHANGE-UP, FRED CLAUS, and WEDDING CRASHERS. He's an interesting choice to take on what could have been a powerful drama and perhaps that's why I felt this trailer is a little too melodramatic for my taste. I can see anyone else in Downey's role and it's the same movie; seriosuly just put in Jon Hamm and it's the same movie.
Still, THE JUDGE has a lot going for it in terms of casting: Vera Farmiga, Vincent D’Onofrio, Balthazar Getty, David Krumholtz, Leighton Meester and Oscar-winners Billy Bob Thornton and Melissa Leo star.
What do you guys think of this one? THE JUDGE will be released October 10th 2014.
