Colin Firth Mary Poppins Returns

While I'm still questioning the need for a sequel to MARY POPPINS, after all, the original was practically perfect in every way, Disney seems to be packing the film full of so many talented individuals that it's becoming awfully difficult to have anything bad to say about the upcoming film. MARY POPPINS RETURNS stars Emily Blunt in the title role and now Variety has reported that Colin Firth (KINGSMAN: THE SECRET SERVICE) will be joining her.

The outlet reports that Colin Firth will be playing William Weatherall Wilkins, president of Fidelity Fiduciary Bank. If there ever was an actor who I believe would be able to effortlessly step into the world of MARY POPPINS, it'd be Colin Firth, so I'd imagine that he'll make a very nice addition to the cast. The film will take place 25 years after the original in Depression-era London and follows "a now-grown Jane and Michael Banks, who, along with Michael’s three children, are visited by the enigmatic Mary Poppins following a personal loss. Through her unique magical skills, and with the aid of her friend Jack, she helps the family rediscover the joy and wonder missing in their lives." The sequel also stars Emily Mortimer as Jane, Ben Whishaw as Michael, Lin-Manuel Miranda as a street lamplighter named Jack and Meryl Streep as Topsy, Mary Poppins' cousin.

MARY POPPINS RETURNS is set for a December 25, 2018 release.
