Updated: Joseph Gordon-Levitt to produce Neil Gaiman’s Sandman; will possibly star and direct

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

UPDATED: Gordon-Levitt just posted this message on his official facebook page: “Ladies and gentlemen, I’m incredibly honored to be working with David Goyer, Warner Bros, and Neil Gaiman on SANDMAN. ‪#‎Prelude‬”

Recently we reported on a rumor
from Badass Digest that David S. Goyer was pitching an adaptation of Neil Gaiman‘s Sandman with Joseph Gordon-Levitt as the star. Now Deadline is reporting that Gordon-Levitt will produce alongside Goyer, and is looking to star as well as direct. Goyer and Gordon-Levitt are currently finalizing the deal with Warner Bros.

Brief synopsis:

The Sandman series shifts between horror and fantasy, and the central character is Morpheus, the personification of dreams. After being held captive 70 years, Morpheus escapes, gains revenge and rebuilds his crumbling kingdom while trying to adapt to the times.

There have been attempts to get a Sandman movie made but Warner Bros. couldn’t get the right vision of the material until now. They are looking for a writer to attach to the project.

Gordon-Levitt did great with his directorial debut DON JON though this would be an entirely different animal. I think if he’s passionate about it then there’s no reason that he shouldn’t be given the opportunity. How are you guys feeling about him as Morpheus? I’ve always enjoyed the actor in an role he’s ever taken so I’d be up for seeing his take on the character.
