Edgar Wright is making a movie about shadows for DreamWorks Animation

Edgar Wright is embarking on making his first animated film, striking a deal with DreamWorks Animation for an original work that will deal with the concept of shadows.

Wright will be directing and co-writing the script with author/comedian David Walliams whose children’s books have sold more than 10 million copies and who might be best known for his BBC One sketch show LITTLE BRITAIN, which he does with Matt Lucas.

This wouldn’t be Wright’s first entry into the animated field, having co-written THE ADVENTURES OF TINTIN with Joe Cornish and Steven Moffat, but this will be his debut as an animation director. But, according to Wright in a released statement, animation helped form his very roots as a filmmaker and is something he is more than excited to try his hand at on such a large scale.

My first endeavors in film-making as a teenager were in animation, so it was hugely intriguing to get a call from DreamWorks Animation about potentially directing. When the Shadows concept was suggested to me, I could see the poster, the title sequence and pretty much the whole movie. It’s a blast writing this and to have one of my oldest friends in comedy, David Walliams, along for the adventure is a thrill.

DreamWorks Animation has wanted to make some sort of movie about shadows for awhile, although nothing ever came together in substantial fashion. They may have lucked out on that front in being able to lure Wright into the mix to pull it off.
