Dwayne Johnson’s action comedy Red Notice picked up by Universal, Legendary

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

Not long ago, Warner Bros. New Line, Paramount, Sony, Universal and Legendary became engaged in an epic bidding war for Dwayne Johnson's next action comedy RED NOTICE. And now, after several offers had been made by each participating party, both Universal and Legendary have emerged victorious with the hot, new property held high. And so came to pass The Great War for RED NOTICE. And thus, the planning stages for production began.

Alright, enough with the history lesson routine. RED NOTICE is a "globe-trotting heist thriller" project set to be directed by Rawson Marshall Thurber, who also wrote the script. In the past, Johnson and Thurber have collaborated on not one, but two action-related films: CENTRAL INTELLIGENCE and the upcoming SKYSCRAPER.

RED NOTICE will be produced by Beau Flynn through his FlynnPictureCo., with Johnson, Dany Garcia and Hiram Garcia producing through their Seven Bucks Production label, along with Thurber. Wendy Jacobson will executive produce. Word has it that Johnson stands to make up to $20 million for his participation in the film, which is quite the impressive figure for the wrestler-turned-action film star.

No plot details related to RED NOTICE have been shared at this time. Though if you're looking to smell what The Rock is cooking, you can head out to the theater to see JUMANJI: WELCOME TO THE JUNGLE, right now, or wait until July 13th when SKYSCRAPER makes its theatrical debut.

Production on RED NOTICE is expected to begin next year, so it will likely be a whlie until we hear more about this one.
