Dwayne Johnson teams up with a giant gorilla in new Rampage trailer

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

April 20th of this year is going to be one hell of a ride for those who love to over-indulge in both cinematic and game-related entertainment. Here's the release breakdown for that day: The quirky cardboard-based add-on, Nintendo Labo, gets released for the Nintendo Switch, A Perfect Circle is dropping their new and long-awaited album Eat the Elephant, there's a new God of War game coming to the Playstation 4, and Dwayne Johnson's RAMPAGE is set to be unleashed in theaters!

As your attoney, I advise you to start thinking of excuses to call in sick to work, that day.

Today, we've got a brand-new trailer for Brad Peyton's RAMPAGE, a game-to-screen adaptation of the 1986 Bally Midway arcade classic. The footage, while consisting of moments already shared in previous trailers, does off a bit of a twist near the end, when we see Johnson's Dr. Okoye teaming up with his gorilla pal, George, for some good old fashioned monster mayhem.

In the movie, Primatologist Davis Okoye (Johnson), a man who keeps people at a distance, shares an unshakable bond with George, the extraordinarily intelligent, silverback gorilla who has been in his care since birth.  But a rogue genetic experiment gone awry mutates this gentle ape into a raging creature of enormous size.  To make matters worse, it¹s soon discovered there are other similarly altered animals.  As these newly created alpha predators tear across North America, destroying everything in their path, Okoye teams with a discredited genetic engineer to secure an antidote, fighting his way through an ever-changing battlefield, not only to halt a global catastrophe but to save the fearsome creature that was once his friend.

Joining Johnson for the chaotic beastial beatdown are Oscar nominee Naomie Harris (MOONLIGHT), Malin Akerman (BILLIONS), Jake Lacy (GIRLS), Joe Manganiello (TRUE BLOOD) and Jeffrey Dean Morgan (THE WALKING DEAD); as well as P.J. Byrne (THE WOLF OF WALLSTREET), Marley Shelton (SOLACE), Breanne Hill (SAN ANDREAS), Jack Quaid (THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE), and Matt Gerald (DAVID).

Do you think moviegoers are going to dig RAMPAGE? Are you excited to see the movie? If the movie performs like gangbusters, do you think it will pave the way for video game-to-screen adaptations to be taken more seriously in Hollywood? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.

RAMPAGE will smash into theaters on April 20th.
