These days, part of the fun of watching a movie in theaters or at home with the ability to freeze frames, is finding the Easter eggs hidden within. For the history buffs out there, the origin of the cinematic Easter egg dates back to THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW. Supposedly one day on the set, the cast decided to have a traditional Easter egg hunt, as you do, but some of the eggs were never found and actually appeared in frames of the movie! So if you're obsessed with finding hidden messages, jokes, and ways to make you look smart in front of your friends, check out these Easter eggs!

Understandably some of these have been around for a while, but some may be new to other readers; there’s no expiration date on sharing so enjoy and have fun!

**POSSIBLE SPOILERS**

CARS 2 – Drive-in connections

Arguably (not really) Pixar’s worst set of films would have to be CARS and its sequel CARS 2. The movies lacked any emotional depth, noteworthy humor or imagination that we have come to expect from the studio. It certainly had nods to other Pixar favorites, as if to say “Sorry, but remember these ones?”

First up would be a marquee spotted when Lightning McQueen and Mater drive past the Radiator Springs Drive-in, it reads: The Incredimobiles, a la THE INCREDIBLES.

Then we have in the post credits scene, the Radiator Springs Drive-In Theatre is showing "Toy Car Story". Not the most imaginative eggs, but it’s CARS after all.

RATATOUILLE – Silent but deadly

mime egg bomb voyage

Brad Bird gave us THE INCREDIBLES and RATATOUILLE, so it’s only fair that he gives a shout out to his own work within these pictures. Remember the French mime-like supervillain Bomb Voyage from THE INCREDIBLES? Well he appears in the background of RATATOUILLE as a mime, naturally. This is perfect considering the French setting and it means Bomb Voyage is still at large! Let’s hope he’s in the upcoming sequel to THE INCREDIBLES.

There is also a scene in RATATOUILLE, you can see that our boy Linguine is wearing Incredibles-themed boxers. He’s got good taste, get it? You can have that one.

TOY STORY 3 – In good company

toy story 3

There is a theory out there (an insane one mind you) that all Pixar films exist in the same universe. Having seen all the eggs mentioned this week, one could argue that isn’t too insane. Take for example the small world in which we notice in TOY STORY 3 that Buzz Lightyear is powered by Buy n Large batteries, which is the same company that eventually takes over the world in WALL-E.  Mind blown? Not really, but it’s fun to imagine. FYI: BnL logos are seen on the construction equipment surrounding Carl's house in UP.

BRAVE – Sully carved up

brave monsters inc

Here is that same universe theory kicking up steam again. We know that in MONSTERS, INC. the creatures use magical doors to get from their universe to the human world. Well, who can explain the carving of Sully in the witch’s cabin from the movie BRAVE, which is set in medieval Scotland? I would chalk it up to a nice piece of subliminal marketing because a year after BRAVE’s release, almost to the day, MONSTERS UNIVERSITY was released in theaters.
