Matt Damon says he’s down to be Bourne again, but only with Paul Greengrass

It’s been nearly seven years since Matt Damon played Jason Bourne on the big screen in Paul Greengrass' THE BOURNE ULTIMATUM. The franchise has since gone on without him by casting Jeremy Renner as the lead in 2012’s THE BOURNE LEGACY. The reception was lukewarm at best as trying to fill the shoes Damon fit into perfectly was obviously no easy task.

Well, I expect some heads might turn and some scripts might get started tonight with the reiteration from Damon that he’s willing to return to the franchise, but only with Greengrass on board and with the right screenplay.

He said to CNBC:

"I've always been open to it if Paul Greengrass is the director. We've just never been able to come up with a story… It felt like such a good way to end it last time. Having said that, I love that character. I'd love to see what happened to him."

Back in November of last year we shared the news that Justin Lin was set to direct the next Bourne installment with Jeremy Renner returning, so I can’t imagine everything coming to a halt to make Damon’s solution for getting him back in the role:"If any of your viewers have a story, please call Universal and submit it."

Personally I love the Bourne movies with Damon; I can’t turn away even when it’s on TV and edited to hell. THE BOURNE LEGACY may not have been the thrill ride we had in the first three movies, but Renner definitely brought it as an action star.  I'd like to see Damon and Greengrass reunite for another story, but let's not dilute the already rich stories laid out with a cash grab.

Do any of you have a great idea for another Bourne with Damon? What would you say to a cross-over flick?
